Hi folks,
Following on from the very successful Summer Dive-in a couple of weeks back, I'm pleased to announce a unique event- an evening Dive-in at the same venue. This will take place on Saturday 6th August, so pencil that one in your diaries.
The fun starts at 3pm, and goes on until dark, or your batteries are exhausted! The pool will be floodlit, of course you can also add some lights to your boat for added effect.
BBQ facilities are on site, and charcoal will be provided, so bring along some bangers or what have you along to cook-up if you like. We also have a cheap bar which serves a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments. There is free parking on site for up to about 15 cars, and some additional parking along the road.
St Albans is easily reached by road and rail, being close to the M25 and M1.
All details are on the flyer, but for clarity I'll repeat them here.
Entry is £5 per person, a nominal £1 for spectators
The venue address is-
St Albans Sub Aqua Club
Cotton Mill Lane
St Albans
AL1 1HJ
Here is the location on Google Maps-

Hope to see you there!

Hi andy,
put me down i will be there :-)) :-))
-
Me and the Vanguard, too, subject to getting the leave from work that after noon!! {:-{
Jim
-
Me and George as well, possibly spike mikey as well
-
Getting quite a jolly little crew together already.
If you're on the Dive-in facebook page, don't forget to RSVP to the event.
Andy
-
Woo hoo.
Im not working that day, but whether I am "free"...
Put me down as a distinct tryer.
David
-
I've got the leave from work so will be there, unless there is some disaster of some sort!! :D
Jim
-
Are people bringing foord to do the BBQ thing or just coming for a sail? I am coming after work hard to sort out fresh food.
-
Folk can do either. The BBQ facility is there, if folk want it. I didn't want to buy in food, because it's difficult to judge who wants what, and you either end up with too much of something or not enough.
It's not really worth the charcoal if only one or two want it. I'll send a note out this weekend asking who definitely would be interested, and take it from there.
Andy
-
me and one oyher will be eating!
-
Just a reminder that it is this Saturday, folks.
This will be the last Dive-in at St Albans until 2012. However we do have a Brockwell Dive-in pencilled on for Sunday 6th November, so pencil that one in to your diaries.
The weather forecast is dry, so fingers crossed that is accurate.
-
Unfortunately the hot spell we've had over recent days (now over, looking out of the window!) has resulted in an algae bloom at the St Albans pool. It's unfiltered, so essentially a deep pond and thus it's effected in much the same way most many boating ponds are this time of year.
Not much I can do about this. Visibility is down to about five feet, and if you try hard you can just see the bottom of the pool at the deep end (9 feet) however the water quality is well below that of the Summer Dive-in a few weeks ago.
I'm carrying on with this event as planned, as it's a bit late in the day to cancel, but I just wanted to let everyone know, so there are no disappointments.

It'll be more realistic - (And challenging.......) I'm still up for it - can't wait! :D
Jim
-
If you can see the to the bottom of the deep end then visibility is already better than most ponds you'll come acoss, so I sure it will be fine :-)
-
Andy Please put my name on the list we will be driving down Saturday morning see you there
Regards Mark
-
Good stuff. I don't think you'll be able to get such good footage with your camera his time though.
Perhaps your wife will get chance to visit the market this time.
The weather is looking rather nice down here after yesterdays downpour, and it's forecast to last into tomorrow, with the weather breaking on the Sunday.
-
never mind the bloody market <*< dive in is more important {-) O0

:-))Water ok a good day

Well what can I say? A GREAT afternoon out with some like minded people. Great, relaxed atmosphere and the pool was quite a lot clearer than Andy was worried about. I could see the Vanguard out of trimat the 9 foot mark no problem! (Caused by the warm water I reckon....?!)
Anyway - a BIGThanks to Andy for the time and effort he has put into this and the other dive-in's!! :-)) (And I owe you a fiver for this one - don't forget and I'll pay you in November?) :embarrassed:
Best regards
Jim

Ah ha- the one that got away! Not to worry. I think everyone that came along enjoyed themselves, I was pleased with the way the event went. We had a couple of no shows, and it was a more modest turnout than the Summer event. That was expected, bearing in mind it was organised fairly quickly, and at a time when many people enjoy a holiday.
The pool was certainly a lot clearer on Saturday than it was on the Wednesday. Apparently the scuba club chairman had been along and added a bit more chlorine to the water so that helped I think.
Once again many thanks to our host- St Albans Sub Aqua Club, for allowing us to operate this event in their splendid facility.

Really good day and the water was much clearer than it appears. I neglected to bring a camera, but hopefully Roy will get the video edited.
