Title: Information on the Atlantis
Post by: Brian Roberts on July 06, 2011, 11:09:20 am
I've recently finished my Atlantis build and I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me any information about the original boat which was a twin masted schooner built in 1935.

Thanks in advance

Brian

I have to ask Brian

Where did you find the information that the original was launched in 1935? This info may help in the search.

Hello tigertiger

The very brief description of the original boat is in the instructions for the build, ie " 28m long gaff rigged schooner built in 1935"

There's some info HERE (http://dlaweb.whoi.edu/ships/atl.html).
If it's the same boat, she was re-named as El Austral in 1966.
There's always Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RV_Atlantis) of course.
Robert.

Thanks Robert, this could well be what I'm looking for, the sail configuration is slightly different on the photo but the model is a semi scale model after all!

Many thanks

The WHOI Antlantis was built in 1931

Ned

I saw the WHOI RV Atlantis as well, but it is listed as a ketch. And the date is wrong. I also got to thinking, there are probably thousands of craft named Atlantis registered in different ports.
