Post by: nhp651 on July 10, 2011, 08:38:20 am
good morning folks...

my  question for you all.......

although it takes less than a year these days for a film to transform from cinema to TV Via DVD why has Love Story, staring Ryan O'Neil  and Alli MacGraw, released in 1971 ( 40 years ago) NEVER EVER been on tv in this country...........????

My soppy side coming out now,  <:( <:( <:( <:(

I think Neil is right, I cant find any record of it having been on TV.

Mind you the wife  disagrees and says she's seen it a least twice.   >>:-(

Films shown on board were always regarded as a 'Good Thing' provided by the Company via Walport Films and exchanged between ships by 3rd Mates who knew that their future popularity depended on getting something previously unseen.

I can recall only one film emptying both houses before the end of the first reel and that was 'Love Story'; the biggest load of over-sentimental, mawkish,  saccharine, overblown waste of film stock known to mankind.  Yech!!!  >:-o  >:-o  >:-o

In contrast, 'Paint Your Wagon' was shown over and over until everyone knew the words and it became a beery singalong success with a massed maritime choir.
