Hi ship mates,
Does any one out there, !!! know or advise on how to actually set up a water cooled speed boat motor and speed controller, ?
any pics or builds, that you have done, !!! there's all these sites selling this stuff, but when you ask them the question, " they don't know,!!!
even thou their trying to flog the stuff, !!! its sounds quick simple, but I'd like to know of your experiences with this topic. what size battery should I use on a 3600 motor and a matched 60a controller ? I have an 8 cell 7.4, but will I need to go to a 11.1 v ?

I have set up a watercooled system albeit brushed but its basically the same. here it is although the speed controller is a different now:

this was a budget cooling kit designed for my size motor, it does the job though so no complaints. The water skoop needs to be in the thrust of the prop it needs to be sealed into the hull around the flange then the cooling tubes are run from it to the cooling coil. keep the tubes as short as possible, no kinks and try and keep it either level or on a downhill. obviously when it comes up threw the hull its uphill but only briefly. in your case send the water to the esc, first then the motor then out the side above the waterline so you can see it flowing when the boat is running.
My boat is a rough as (unmentionable) there are better boats out there to show you

for brushless motors a kind of coolant jacket is avaialble. some brushless motors have them allready fitted. does your motor have a jacket on it?

Hi Roy,
I initially used a 4 cell Lipo in and it went like a rocket, so I calmed it down to a 3 cell which also was also a bit too lively. So for a good scale speed, plus a bit of oomph if I needed it, I now use a 5000mah 25c 2 cell Lipo. This gives me a run time of about 20 minutes blasting about, but much longer pottering around. Don't forget, even with a 2 cell Lipo, you'll get about 29,000 revs, so prop accordingly.
I bought a water intake, the plastic and brass sort off ebay, then ran the pipe firstly to the esc, then into the motor, from there into the water cooled motor mount, and from there to the outlet in the side, it works fine this way. Just one thing, make sure your batteries can handle the big drain these motors require, 25c minimum I'd use other wise you'll do as I did, burn one out....
Take no notice of the tape round the hull, that was just to hold the 2 halves together whilst glueing...

thanks, so to recap, should I get a 3 cell li pol battery 25c ?, as my boat is the Dumas Crist Craft runabout ? I'm just looking for a fast, but mostly running at scale model speed .thanks again Roy

you can see the water intake on the hull in this picture. its just a ram scoop really and needs pointing forwards into oncoming water current.

Hi, just receive mine, no instructions !!! however the bullets are very loose fitting, ? (they un plug and fall out) !
is there any particular order to the 3 wires coupled up to the motor to the Speedcontroller ?
ie motor wire are RED BLACK YELLOW
SPEEDCONTROLLER ENDS RED BLUE BLACK

Hi. It doe's not matter which way you connect the wire's but just check which way the motor rotates. Change over any two wire's to get the correct rotation for the prop. I have a brushless setup in my Cruiser tug and have a air cooled car ESC. It works with no problems or over heating.

Hi Mike. I used the gold plated bullet connectors which are soldered on then heat shrink tubing on the connectors to stop them shorting out. These connections need to be a good fit due to the amp flow.

Hi I should have also mentioned that the female connector should be on the ESC and male on the motor.

when i got mine nothing fitted to geather at all!! the connetors were in the box witht he motor for the esc side the ones on the esc were completely wrong. ive removed the standard esc ones and soldered the ones that came with the motor. it works fine now, i did the propgramming lot of faffin about.

Hi, Just got my Charger from Giantcod, great site, thanks, got a A606, real easy to use, just charged up my cells, re-solded the bullets on the S/controller(fits great now) !!!, so just waiting on the prop now, than I can set up the speed controller and fit.

where did you get the battery from?

Hi Mike, thanks for your posts, I got 2 batteries with the charger from Giantcod, " I fitted the deans plugs first, to link up with my motor, but Giantcod said to actually use bullets, but I already had fitted mine, " not problem" as they link up great and are very easy to charge, the charger cost me £43 and I think the battery cost £18 with leads, female bullets one end and plain on the other end, so you can fit what plugs you like. thanks again,
