Title: help with tug please

hi to all,im new to the boat building forum world,i was going to start with a fishing boat ,but love tug boats so i would like to no what is the best tug to start with please?thank you for your time and help

Welcome Mollski,

as many people will say on here im sure. It depends what your after and how much you can afford to spend. Are you looking for a kit form, or to build from plans? have you got any previous RC/kit building experience. If we can get this info from you, then it can help us narrow down which models may be suitable for you. My first ever kit was the Robbe Paula III. Its a small harbour vessel, but with all of the additional working auxillary functions it can be made into a cracking little boat. this kit isnt too expensive, and can be a good starter (in my eyes) into RC boats. :)

If it is a tug kit you are after then the Model Slipway Al Khubar is a fairly simple one, with precut parts and decent instructions and drawings.

Hello there Mollski, welcome aboard Mayhem. I agree with DickyD, Model Slipway do some great kits, many of them tugs, and a couple of fishing boats. They're great for beginners and experienced modellers and there's always plenty of scope to add extra detail. Another advantage with Model Slipway is that all you have to source is a motor(s), radio gear and of course paint, glues etc. They also offer great value for money I think and aftersales support is excellent. We're all on here to help with any problems that might arise. Look forward to seeing your build, Dave.  :-))

hi guys first may i thank the 3 of you for takeing the time to reply,ok first im sorry to say ive never ever built anything before,so im in at the deep end, the model slipway a1 khubar looks great,is this kit easy to build please?also were can i get it from please?what else will i need thats not in the box?thank you for your time and help

Never built the Al Khubar but what I would say about MS kits is that the intructions are second to none and for anyone's first build they explain everything in a good stage by stage way.  Hard to go wrong with the quality of the whole package really.  You will need the motor and MS will recommend and supply one, a coupling and of course your RC gear.

Get it direct from Model SLipway via their website

Hi there, mollski. I've built a couple of Model Slipway kits, just finished their Our Lass 2. They're very good and you should be fine if you stick to the instructions, if you do get stuck give them a call or ask on here. You can get the kit from Model Slipway directly or an alternative supplier is Westbourne Model Centre. You'll need a pair of motors (with mounts) and couplings to attach them to the propshafts. Also an esc (electronic speed controller) for each motor if you want to control each motor separately. Or alternatively both motors could be run at the same time using a single speed controller, this maybe an easier option for a first build. You'll need a servo to operate the rudders and a minimum 2 channel radio, and of course batteries.
All of this can be supplied by Westbourne Model Centre, they're very knowledgeable and friendly.  Hope this is of some help, Dave.  :-))
