Title: Newbie question
Post by: tomo55 on August 19, 2011, 01:01:47 pm
Hi , Im going to build a tug(not sure which one yet) .I think I know the answer to this ,If you have twin Kort nozzels they are steered together ie linked and turn together. My question is do the motors have independent control through separate speed controls or are they controlled through one speed control?
Thanks in advance Chris

Hi Tono,

Actually you can do both!

1. Both motors on a single speed controller, simple and cheaper.
2. Independent Speed controllers for each motor, more manoeuvrable but a bit more expensive.

There are various motor control aids for independent motors, ACTion do a few... http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/

Thanks for that Martin. I will keep it simple and go for the single speed control.
one more question do the props need to be left and right handed?
Chris

Yes. Left handed for port and right handed for starboard - that's what my Dad's 1:1 tug had and I've done the same with my 'smaller' versions!
