Title: Brass Name Plaques - Naming conventions
Post by: miarkaf on August 28, 2011, 09:59:13 am
I'm looking round for some suitable brass plaques that I can have engraved with my boats names.  The problem is I'm not sure of the correct naming conventions for the ships. Perhaps someone can throw some light on this subject?..

The first is the Milford Star, should this just be "Milford Star" or should it be "MV Milford Star" or something different again?. My other boat, (I'm just building) is the MTB Dark Biter....again should it just be called "Dark Biter" or "HMS Dark Biter"....Any guidence much appreciated.  Also any source of suitable plain plaques would be very helpful.

Regards

Alan

Alan if it's a Naval ship it should always have HMS in front of the name. Merchant ships it is your choice MV or SS or whatever
is suitable - for name plates and the engraving, a sports trophy shop is an ideal source.
