I was going to say, you're looking at the wrong map, but longboat beat me to it...

Model Boat Mayhem UK map showing model boat clubs. (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=208748619214987957985.000455fd039eb4a7d09fe&msa=0&ll=52.268157,-46.054687&spn=113.153701,252.421875)

Always nice to double up the listings by setting them on RCgroups also.

Is it possible to use an upto date map ?

The one I see is about 3-4 years out of date and our lake (post code SA67 8DE) wasnt built then. On our website http://westwalesmodelboats.webs.com/ on the home page is an aerial picture just to prove its there.

Of course not! But don't expect them all to be represented on here. Many of them will never have heard of Mayhem.

Check out the MPBA and MYA Websites plus the Associations listed on the Model Boats Website  http://www.modelboats.co.uk/editorial/page.asp?p=228 which I would have thought was the obvious place to look.

True actually. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the majority of Model Boats readers are not major internet users and they outnumber the Mayhem membership several times. It is easy to assume that all model boaters are online but that doesn't in fact seem to be the case. Just as a lot of model boat clubs are not affiliated to either the MPBA or MYA.

Yippes !   Looking at this map, as a member of Black Park Model Boat Club, it appears there are no other clubs within 40 or 50 miles of me.
ie:  South coast, Oxford, Maidstone, Luton & Stevenage.   {:-{
No shortage of lakes, ponds and reservoirs.  So are model boat enthusiasts realy that thin on the ground ?

Hi Bobk, the St. Albans model engineering society is affiliated to the MPBA and we operate out of the lakes in St. Albans.
There are a lot of lakes around as you say but many are controlled by fishing interests.  But there is a sailing club at Rickmansworth Aquadrome.
Very much enjoy sailing at Black Park club as well.
regards to all, Roy

Thank you Roy.  If you have details for those, especially Rickmansworth, I would enjoy a visit to both.  I like to meet other enthusiasts  :}
I know there is a club at Beale Park, where I look forward to visiting with my club for their event on 6 May, plus the Luton & District 20th Anniversary event this Sunday - weather permitting.

Thanks Subculture, but clubs in Essex and even Southend are a long way from me in Windsor.  Southend would be a couple of hours drive away.  Maidstone is also way over the other side of the M25.  I am lucky to have Black Park only 20 mins from home.

Suggestion:  Would it be possible to create a Mayhem Map of clubs and suppliers?

Well to be honest, you did say 40-50 miles, and with a couple of exceptions, they're all pretty much within that window. I'd avoid Southend for submarine sailing though, because the pond is salt water- I found that out the hard way a few years ago.

There are others, like Hanwell and District, North London Society of Model Engineers (their pond is at Colney Heath in Herts). Lots and lots of clubs to choose from. Nothing stopping anyone from forming one either if there is a suitable body of water and sufficient enthusiasm amongst a small group of like minded individuals.
