Title: Contact Adhesive.

I am building a 1/16 th scale Tamar Lifeboat and am now ready to fit the 'D' section Fenders.

I am supposed to use contact adhesive but I am concerned that this will effect the paint when I apply it.

Any comments would be appreciated.

i aint no expert but I think contact adhesive once it has gone off, becomes somewhat inert... but the paint may not stick to the surface for long... try it out on a bit of scrap first...

Whatever else, when something is stuck to a painted surface, its the stiction between the paint and the surface that is doing the holding, not the adhesive.

Sounds like he is sticking the D section before painting

There's a bit of a discussion about this very problem towards the bottom of my Trent build thread, which may prove helpful.  :-)

I eventually tidied up the messy bits using thick superglue.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think that I will try a test piece and maybe in the end will try using thick superglue if the contact adhesive is not suitable.

Will let you know how it goes.

Nah, you don't get what I mean man... if the adhesive dries smooth, the paint will not have any surface irreguilarities to stick to..
