Hi,
I've got an Mtroniks 40 Amp ESC, and I'm looking for an inline fuse holder to protect it. At the moment I've got a max 30 amp mini blade type unit, but I've blown the 30 amp fuse before, so I'm looking for something rated to 40 amps. It seems hard to find. I've noticed the standard blade fuses go up to at least 40 amps, but I can't seem to find a fuse holder rated to 40 amps to go with it - am I correct in assuming that it's basically down to the gauge of wire attached to the fuse holder which will determine if it can handle 40 amps?
Does anyone else here use 40 amp fuses - if so what do you use?

If your esc is rated at 40amps you really need a fuse less than 40amps, not much point otherwise.

probably with a coarse pitch prop.

You could of course double up the fuse holders in parallel or if space permits use a mains fuse and holder.John.

You can get the large blade type fuse holders from Halfords I bought a holder and 50 Amp fuse for my brushless motor.

Think they call the larger car fuses "Maxi fuses" and are available up to 100 amp rated, you can get with either eylet terminals or push on "blade" types.
but do agree, you need to fit a fuse rated lower than the speed controller, or the fuse is of little use as they will burn out together anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll check out Halfords - I didn't see the larger fuse holders when I was there last, but I'll go the bigger one near me.
I don't have a special setup - the one time it blew I was testing full throttle in the bath %% and I think that put more strain on the motors than they would ordinarily encounter when running. I'm using 2 545s and 2 9.6 volt Nimh packs - all in parallel.

2 x 545's shouldn't pull anywhere near 30 amps.

Hi Bob,
That's what I would have thought. Running flat out on the bench I think I measured just over 10 amps. In the water it would pull more, but like I said I think it was just the extra load of being stationary in the bath that probably pushed the motors towards stall. I'll be taking it out for only the second time on Sunday - will see how she goes!
