Post by: portside II on March 16, 2007, 11:25:40 pm
Hi all ,i have had this hull since Blackpool last year so its about time i started on her so here we go .
i have already fitted the timbers for the decks to sit on and made the decks and the next job was the running gear once i had purchased the korts

#3 Whilst i couldnt do out with the hull it did'nt mean i couldnt do anything with the wheelhouse ,so here is one to start with made from foam bonded with supa glue and painted  dont look too bad ,but the best thing is it weighs about 3oz and 2oz must be the paint

     ...Hi Portside II...

I had a similar problem, I cut a bit off the top of the  stock of  the resin rudder post holder & the rudder post & it fitted in no problem....

It looks good...If you cut a chamfer off the front off the deckhouse it makes a completely different looking deckhouse...There are pictures of a few NANGEES on the forum....

Keep up the good work...REGARDS...Norry...

AGGGH picked up the shafts the other day (real bearings oh so smooth)  so it was out into the shed and a start on fitting them .
Back in this morning, friday and the chemical metal is like well metal, hard as rock and after a minot file of the korts and a shimmy the props spin with a breath of air .
the next job that afternoon was to wire up the motors and thats where the problem is .
THEY WONT REVERSE!!!!!!!!!
Thought about it and had a word with me supplier and will have to sort them out (the motors) saturday morning .
Has anyone else had motors that work in only one direction?

I take it they are not model motors, Are they out of a full size car ? they may have a field winding no magnets if so then its not that easy but can be done bit like the old taycol motors. Peter

thanks Peter i am not sure where they came from but the lad where i got them from was as puzzled as me ,you are right about the field windings hopefully we can get them sorted or replaced otherwise i willhave to rip out the mount .

You should be able to reverse them you could on the old taycol  motors it may just need a little thought , just put a post out to see if there is anybody on the forum who has done it you will prob need a relay and a diode for each. Peter

If the motor does have field windings rather than magnets, to reverse the motor you need to bring the filed windings out separate to the the armature windings. What you need to do is to reverse the polarity of the field winding with respect to the armature winding. With this sort of motor Positive Field to Positivie Armature will give the same direction of rotation irrespective of which way round you connect the power soures, Positive Field to Negative Armature will give the reverse direction irrespective of which way you connect the power.

To achieve this get a "Y" lead to parallel up a servo to the ESC - use the servo to switch a relay that performs the reversing action as the control moves through the neutral position. If it were me I would use a 1/2 circle on the servo that activates a microswitch to switch the relay.

I will try to put up a sketch over the next few days if this is not clear enough or someone else beats me to it.

well it's nearly a month now and still no sign of the motors .so it looks like she will have to sit on the shelf until either they arive or i get fed up and fit a pait of speed 600BB's in which i dont realy want to do as they will draw more power and reduce the play time.
Will add more when it happens.

thanks funtimefrankie
I am not sure where Andy from Goole model center got them from ,and the have said that they are replacing them .
I have thought of putting othe ones in but like i said these are low drain and hogh tourque and low reving  and apart from that i have made the steel mounts and fixed them into the hull (could be a sod to remove) with chemical metal.

just been to the shop and the motors are a no no ,the supplier has said that they will not be in stock in the forseable future . So it looks like a trip to the scrap yard to see what they have to offer ,i would rather get a pair of similar size then i dont have to rip the mounts out .
will keep ypu all updated .

Hello Daz,

Have you seen those new Tug motors Mobile marine are advertising? Would they be suitable for your Nangee?

Clive :)

Thanks Clive , yeh i have and they look great but there is a price on them as well .i have just e-mailed Bryan to se if he has any of the old type left in stock as they would fit onto the mounts with little modification  otherwise i will have to cut them out and replace .

just an update on the nangee build
she now has a pair of 555's and a pair of electronise fr15's running together ,according to electronise i can leave the bec's on both esc's connected and it will give me more power for auxillarys without any damage .
i have also fitted the rubber fender topping around the hull  photos to follow once she gets her bottom wet .

thanks DaveB thats whare i got the 555's from and at £12. a pair you cant go wrong ,but to be fair i am going to try the 555's and a pair of MFA 540's just to see if there is any comparison .
with the motors from Alistair there was a leaflet showing the buelhur motors he has in stock , now they look serious motors i am sure i could build a tug for them to live in.
i made a trip down to the family scrap yard the other day and came back with a pair of nissaan micra wiper blade motors and a few others from rovers and peguoet's,
and after attacking them with the hack saw i have 5 low speed high torque motors ,very tourquey .
now where could i use them mmmm.

first time on the propper wet stuff  and all is ok now i have played around ,the forward power was realy low then i found out that it was only at 17% with reverse at100%
she shipps a bit of water over the rear deck but not as much through the hatch ,might have to build some high comings and raise the hatch which should stop any water ingress .

Hello Portside
The 555 motors will run a bit slower than the 540's but will give better run times, i brought a couple of those big buhlers from Alistair at Alfold don't know what to fit them in yet but by god they do run smooth not much top end on 12v but lots of grunt. I don't get to many shows and have a thing about good quality motors so buy them when i can.

she is now all ready for the open water as long as the waves dont get too high  ,the raised hatch works a treat although she still shipps a bit of water in nothing i cant handle  ,a new bilge pump will sort that out .

Your nangee is looking good, I have followed your construction from the begining, its great to watch things come together. I am in the process of building the same and I am using a 12 pole motor that was taken out of a bath lift, it looks very similar to the ones that MMM sell, I am hoping it will be ok.
My question to you is,, can you tell me where you got the rubber capping for the gunwhales, I capped mine with wood but yours look great, I think I will be doing a strip down and renewing them
Cheers Bosun.

Rubber Edging Strip  can be bought in Maplins,or on E-Bay...

Or if you want to make your own...Run a Stanley Knife along a Length of Round Electric Cable or Fuel Hose  or Air Hose From a Fish Tank & Slip It Over The Gunwales and away you go...

Aha thought it was you tapping into my mind with your psychic ability's ,your nearly as good as Mr poll.
yes your right Norry ,but for the capping on my nangee bosumi used microphone cable and split it down the center with the knife and removed the core and copper shield .the cable is very subtle as it's rubber to feel so it bends around corners ,and at 75p a meter it's cheep.
