Title: Wallsend Slipway
Post by: Bryan Young on October 08, 2011, 04:46:59 pm
Another "in house" book that landed on my lap a few years ago is a nicely illustrated history of Wallsend Slipway from the years 1871 to 1921. Although the company was primarily an Engineering concern (building and fitting machinery to ships built elswhere) andthe book reflects this, but there are many photos of the actual ships. Even as a "Deckie" I can appreciate the skill shown in the Engine photos...well worth a look. The entire book has only 44 pages. It more or less follows a format of a photo page followed by a text page, so I'm sticking to the original format. As always, due to the size constraints of posted photos, there is a slight reduction in quality from the original 2mb or more. Also just as usual, I'm more than happy to send a "full" definition CD to anyone who wants one..on receipt of a blank CD etc.
So.....on with the motley.

Very sad reminder of how Great,  Britain used to be.This brings home to me how big these yards were and how big every thing was, also how many men were required. What a shame that we cant time travel.Id love to be able to see so many things of the past. Sadly now only photos or a few early films, still at least these survive .John.

Another little gem Bryan, you tend to forget it wasn't just the shipyards up here but the machinery manufacturers as well.
