Post by: Shipmate60 on March 18, 2007, 07:30:22 pm
Had a little sail today, but was too windy.
So here are a few pics of the models out of the water.

Paul,
The Flower being ballasted deep handled the weather best!!

I know they do mate, wide and fat a bit like me! We have two and the only other ships that can out weather them warship wise is, the Bristol and the Arleighburke classes, the latter being like a brick bog.

Hi Bob and Jay probably just as well I couldn't make it.
Was hoping to get my electrics finished today.
Never checked before but Westbournes had given me a male Tamiya connector instead of a female one for the battery, so didn't get very far.

Prior to taking those pics I knocked off some fitting in the car getting to the lake and while sailing in very strong wind my Schutze tried becoming a SUBMARINE :o
the wind took my superstructure clean off the boat ::) lucky for me the RX lead runs up the mast so i didnt loose it good thing the lake has slopped side as i tried to beach it.

all in all a good morning until the wind got too strong.

They do indeed. Is it just me or do those photos look like the best Scalextric set yet?

Nice photos Bob.  What does your Flower weigh?  I bought the kit recently and I'd like to make it an all weather boat.  The pond narrows at my part and the wind speeds up as it passes through so I need a stable boat.
Thanks,
Mike

I can tell you mine weighs just over 6kg with the 6v 12ah battery in her to take it down to the water line.
get the ballast as low and central as possible and she will be well stable.

Hi Mike_ K mine weighs about the same as Jays, though I have a 7.2v ni cad and lead sheet for ballast.
Make sure yours is ballasted down to the waterline.

The Flower is a mates model.
She is mallasted deep and handles really well.
He is also a Master Mariner who handles real ships well and he is satisfied with how she handles, that is good enough for me!!

Hannah,
Wont the Schutze be a bit small after the Ark?
They take a bit of fitting of the parts and most modellers (myself included) overpower them, they only had a top speed of 17 Knots, and interestingly Dead Slow was 6 knots.

Wow--  Thanks all for the answers in record speed.  6kg is 13.2 lbs.  Should be very stable.  Will make a nice winter boat for when the pond looks like the North Atlantic.

Regards,
Mike
