I was reading the latest posts in Name that Part and it got searching the net.
I came across this and thought it was worthy of a new topic

Reminiscent of that film...what was it?....."Speed ?"
Where the climax sees the ocean liner running into the middle of town. {-)

There must be lots of buildings all over the world with a maritime feel.
I'll leave it with you.

If you've ever been to Rotterdam Central station, you may have seen this just outside in the square.

Could be a contender for Name that ship.

How about the USS Intrepid... New York?
-
Isn't the "big I" still floating and thus technically not a building?
-
I'll concede to that one...
.... but it's still a great maritime museum....

Hi
Not a maritime museum (though Liverpool has a great one) but a hotel with a prow that faces the Mersey. When it was first built (seventies?) it was quite an exciting addition to the waterfront: and in those days it wasn't hemmed in either side by those two modern buildings. I remember the hotel had a parrot in one of the bars, it was partial to a wee nip of the hard stuff - great fun. There is also to the far left the absolute monstrosity that is the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo Offices.
If you ever get to Liverpool don't miss a 2 minute walk through the ground floor of the Port of Liverpool Building - a fantastic bit of architecture looking up into the dome. It's on the waterfront so it's handy for The Albert Dock, The Maritime Museum, Merset Ferries, etc
