Hopefully Dorma will have a rethink on increasing the engine size in GP next year. Back to the 500 four strokes. :-))

A very sad day for the MotoGP world...

My thoughts go out to Marco Simoncelli's family, friends and the whole race team. And also thoughts go out to Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi who were involved in the crash.

Marco Simoncelli...RIP.

I too, feel very saddened by such news..........after all that the authorities have done to make the sport as safe as possible, it is still frightening for such accidents to happen.
I only hope that his sad death will not be in vain and that rider safety will improve.

I sadly saw a similar accident some years ago at a post TT race at Mallory where a lad called Kevin Clementson also a budding 250 racer suffered a similar fatal accident, and Mallory learned a great deal from his sad loss.

RIP Marco....god bless you and your family..you gave a great deal of pleasure to many.

R.I.P..... Unfortunately Motor Racing is dangerous, and bike racing is alway going to be much more dangerous than car racing..Even airbags in leathers would not of helped in this type of accident..

Its not been a good couple of weeks with Marco's and Dan Wheldon's accidents

Having watched him in the 250s, and his performance in this years MotoGp he was most certainly a future champion in waiting.  A sad loss for everyone concerned.

I did always wonder tho... how did he get all that hair under his crash helmet?

I don't follow Moto GP but did I see an interview with him last year or earlier this year where one of his competitors said,
'Simoncelli  would be world champion one day if he could keep his cool and not ride so aggressively.'

Wasn't he involved in a number of controversial indents before?

A sad day none the less....

He was a so called aggresive rider, who took chances, and annoyed some others.
But on this occasion,he went into a slide, whereas normally the bike would slide of the track,
it suddenly gained grip and careered him into the others, very unfortunate

There have been several times that people have compared him with the late Ayrton Senna with regards to his racing style/mentality call it what you will

A very sad day for the sport as Marco Simonelli was a true 'racer' and exiting to watch.

RIP Marco.

Having seen the video it was not his fault , the front tire folded on him ( called a low side ) and it looks like he stuck his knee down to try and keep the bike upright and got tangled up in the bike which then veered right into the path of the 2 bikes that hit him. Valentino Rossi was one of the riders to hit Marco and as the two were close friends it looks like this was his last race as well as most expect him to retire.

A very sad day indeed

Davie

[EDIT] don't normally look at the Telegraph website but if you go onto their coverage of the story you will see the video of the accident

Yes, a very sad day for Moto GP. Rest In Peace Marco. A bad week for motorsport after the death of IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon just last week in a crash at Las Vegas, Dave.  :((
