Looks like it was Windows 7 that took a dislike to my shortcut to it. :o
-
Hullo geids........ >>:-( Windows7 appears to be a very stable OS platform ...if you have issues [internet related or referenced] .....I would look toward the external elements .....Derek
-
Hi Derek,
I have checked the system, and it was Windows that used DEP to close down my access to Ebay via favourites that I have used for months.
John
-
I to have also started to have issues with an over zealous DEP where I have not had problems before.. >>:-(
-
Guys......I understand this is not a computing WEB site nor this a computing string & I do not act for Bill Gates %%
W7 as previously suggested is a stable OS platform....however I have some 60 updates.........DEP [Data Execution Prevention] may have been an influence >>:-( or a change in an update .......there may be some DEP settings that are adjustable :o .....Derek
-
Hi Derek,
There is, it appears you can it "on" or "off"
John
-
not wise to turn it off permanently, you can add programs for it to ignore..Apparently

What ever has happened to those wonderful commodore 64's ? what, no one using them anymore. Mick B.
-
A few 64's plus other oldie's, accessory's, games, etc tucked away at a mate's house. He can't remember where
he got them from, or what for, as he has no interest in computers etc. He's just a human magpie.

QL was actually Quantum Leap lol
Technically the processor was very good for its time but the operating system didnt fully utilise it and the packaging (keyboard ports etc) were hopeless
-
I remember using the commercial (!) version of the QL, amusingly called the "Tonto". In some ways it was way in advance of its time, but way, way off to one side of where the mainstream was going to go. A good (for the time) office suite, but awkward and messy to use, no wonder BT only used them in house, I doubt that they managed to sell any.
I think I still have a Video Genie hiding in the loft somewhere, probably next to the PCW8512 that would probably work if the drives were given new elastic bands.
-
I loved my little Amiga and my betamax. I was quite fond of the wife and kids too :}

My first proper PC, I bought at a household goods auction, cost me £20 but I could never get it to work properly, ...as it had the "Doss" operating system, which I found to be very difficult to get up and running,
-
Please excuse the smug expression here %) but I reckon I had one of the earliest computers here.
June 1979 - Compukit UK-101
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4f7ct0fj/UK101_Back.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4f7ct0fj/)
It came as a kit - you had to solder all the components, keys etc onto the 12" x 16" mainboard
then you had to sort out your own case ! (probably where I learnt a lot of boat building skills)
(http://s3.postimage.org/i2lv4cm7j/UK101.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/i2lv4cm7j/)
the 51/4" floppy disks held a whole 100k of data
Ahh - those were the days!
After the Compukit, I had a BBC Micro, and an Atari ST before starting with IBM PC Compatibles...
The home computing did gave me an entry into working in computing full time, which
served me well for the rest of my working life.
