Title: Type 42 help
Post by: markjames68 on November 01, 2011, 10:11:45 pm
I have been given  what i have been told is a type 42 hull, but have a few questions,

Looking at pics on the internet, it looks like a type 42 HMS Exeter  / Sheffield hull

Does that make it a type 42 destroyer or a type 42 frigate, is there a difference?

The hull is 57 inches long , which going off the length of the Sheffield at 390ft Give or take, gives a scale of 1/82, seems odd unless i have got the destroyer/ frigate thing mixed up

Does Anyone know of a type 42 in this scale or hull length?

The Type 42 is a guided missile destroyer. If the hull is 57 inches, in 1\96th scale this would make it a batch 3 or 'stretched; Type 42 ie Manchester, Gloucester, York and one other!

The batch 1 \ 2 T42's were slightly shorter and at 1\96th, the hull is around 52 inches. These will build Liverpool, Birmingham, Coventry etc.

Edinburgh - the batch 3's also have a square stern not the rounded type of the others.
