  Hi NHP651
thanks for replying, my Schooner is based on Bluenose the plans I made are from photographs or pictures off the net, I think she is 162 feet in length, my model is 52" in length with a 11" beam, I have made a net, but I am not  happy with it and wondered if there was a method I could use

Just wonderiing, about scale, and your model sounds about 1:30 scale, so have a look at hairnets for the mesh size..not very strong, but when varnished they stiffen up.
also if you go onto the net(not ebay) and search for "shrimping net" there are various sizes of true diamond shaped netting that you can find..very expensive for a shrimp net, but if you ring a supplier for an off cut will probably cost pence if not free if you tell them what it's form.
neil.

here's just one for instance.   http://www.amazon.co.uk/WSB-Tackle-Shrimp-Nets-18/dp/B0040FKXGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320931763&sr=8-1

having said that, suprisingly there are quite a few on ebay (nets that is) for sale.

 Hello Geoff,

Do you have a photo of a Schooner bowsprit net?.
I have lots of Schooner photos, but none of a bowsprit net !.

as a longshot you have a very good supplier of netting in hartcliffe way ( bedminister ) called TILDNET  , if you pass over parson st rail bridge , through traffic lights , passing the matching brick co its the next building on the right ( used to be old bristol journal offices  ) !

Hi Jay dee
I think we have met before on this forum, I have been trying to attach a photo but it is to large, is there a way of reducing it from 3.3meg to suit the forum

Hi Jaydee
I have at last found a way of resizing my photos, so here is my schooner with the net I made attached, I made this net with a board marked out and drilled to accept small brass nail and knotted the wax button cotton around the nails working down the pattern and when complete removing the nails, I would like to try another technique if anyone knows how

Hello GEOFF.

I suggest that you contact your local Womens Institute, they know how to do knitting, sewing and other things like that !.

two thoughts  1 bristol rope and twine , feeder rd st phillips ( next to brandon tool hire )  2 the mast maker who is in the two old barges in bristol docks opposite the buttery ! . i know both of these companies deal with full sized vessels but they may be able to assist !

Don't misinterpret this!

Fishnet tights, window net curtains, caravan door/window flyscreen material, mossie nets

Geoff
No kneed to panic and no need for knitting needles heres two ways of doing it (It's called a Lovers Basket by sailing ship men and I have spent many a memorable hr swinging in one) the proper way to make one is to hake a frame ...cove hitch a measure line around it then infill the middle with sheet bends to the measure line you can make yourself a small net needle from thin plywood  the other way is just to make up a frame and using a needle reeve the thread back and forth at 45 Deg. You must reeve the thread each strand to make it look right

Hi Guys,       I used a Washing Machine net bag trimmed to size for my american fishing schooner, here's a pic.
