Title: SWM Models Morecambe Bay Prawner
Post by: rmaddock on November 12, 2011, 06:09:48 PM
I was the fool who bought the diminutive Prawner off these very pages.

As I was waiting on more photos for my big build, I started on the tiny prawner.  Here's the progress to date:

I've deviated slightly from the destructions...partly through ineptitude and partly through bloody mindedness.  The deck is higher at the stern than it might, perhaps, be. The combing round the cockpit is higher than the kit calls for but this looks more like the boats I've seen. I made it from two spare bits of mahogany lamination. I think it looks okay. The hull's painted with matt enamels and the decks (etc) are done with ronseal floor oil.

As a first foray into small models, I'm not displeased.  I did have to ask for a mangifying light for my Birthday though.....must be getting old.

No.  <*<

I was thinking of a little diorama for it. Perhaps have it floating next to a little jetty on a sloping beach.

You are too kind Neil.....and no, you can't have her back.  <*<

She come on a little more since....I need to work out how to weather her now.

she looks fantastic, Rob......I never in a mllion years thought she'd turn out so lovely.....no offence to your modelling skills which are great..........but I didn't think the kit was capable of giving such a model finish.......a true credit to your skills, matey..lovely work............she's a cracker. :-)) :-)) :-))
Title: That's enough for now!

Right. I declare a halt to this build.......for now anyway.  :-))
I'm quite pleased with the results....for a first go. I'm not happy with the reefing lines....too much glue. And my efforts at weathering are somewhat ham-fisted.
Still, it looks okay if you stand back and squint a bit.  {-)

Oh, and I have to have the decks clear just in case Santa brings me the bits from Action that I'm hoping to get for the big Nobby.......ooo, err, Missus  <*<

I just had to add a crew......and a poorly painted and dubiously salty one at that  {-)
