Title: Kawartha Marine Modellers Mall Show
Post by: oldiron on November 13, 2011, 05:10:12 pm
It was the annual mall show for the faithful at the Kawartha Marine Modellers. The turnout was good from both the public and the modellers. Some new vessels out and some regulars. We also had one of your Brixham modellers on hand. Welcome aboard Rob.

I looked at the pictures and saw the paddlewheeler aground. Looked at first to be someone's camp. Now I am wondering if it was a working boat. A little history perhaps. Also liked the carrier model.

Thanks!

The vessel's were built to haul logs down the inland waterways. They were steam powered through the paddle wheels, but also had steam winch(s) on board. Since logging operations moved considerably as the timber was consumed, these vessels had to be able to move from one water way to another. There were no vehicles at the time that could transport them, so the winches were used to haul the vessels over land. A cable was strung out from the vessel and tied off at a suitable point. When the winch was set to wind the cable in the vessel made its way across land. The model works exactly the same way, except the model uses electric motors.

  Mick:

We generally do it twice a year. This past weekend is a regular every year and we also do one about the third weekend in March. Its held in a shopping mall in Lindsay, Ontario.
For more pictures of our group and models check out this thread: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=15215.0

Thanks

Hi John, thanks for the fast reply. I went to your other pictures & I have to say the models are as good as or better than any on the forum. As you probably know I live in Calgary but not much in the way of model boats happens around here. I saw your build of the Neddy & read the whole tread, & very nice too. I am building the Neddy too, but without much mods just lots of electronics.  It is my first build & is a bit of a struggle. I also followed the build of your friends TID tug in the picture, a very skilled builder if I may say so,pass it on.  It was nice to hear from you keep in touch, if you are ever out this way be sure to drop by for a chat, lunch is on me. Mick B.

Thanks for the compliments on the springergator, my first attempt at r/c boating.
I have a complete build log, which I'll post separately to avoid hijacking this thread.
