Wicksteed Weekend Steering Group
This year instead of Martin having to organise the Mayhem Weekend on his own we are looking for some volunteers so the work load can be shared between a group of us.
Now some of you have already indicated that you would be willing to help, so if you can send me a PM with what you are willing to do we can then start organising what is going to happen over that weekend and by who.
Can you also let me know when you would be getting to the event, that way we will know when to expect you and not panic that something is not going to get done
At the moment we have shipmate60, steamboatphil and myself in the group.

To avoid the problems with disappearing pegs, at the Dive-ins I use a clipboard with a frequency sheet. Submariners use either 27mhz or 40mhz, 2.4ghz being out of bounds underwater. I go around and ask people at the start of the event what frequency they are on, including any spare crystals, and then advise of any clashes. It works quite well, although it could become unwieldy for larger events.
The only problem experienced was when one person gave me the wrong frequency, so we inadvertently had a clash. The only way around that one is to use a frequency checker, and ask the person to switch their transmitter on to check the frequency.
Would I be right in assuming it is most probably easier to change the crystals in a boat than a sub due to their construction?

However there are undulations in the concrete base which offer small area's that are slightly deeper, but only by an inch or two.

I must be getting as old and daft as you, Richard.....................but with much more hair 8)The meeting was a BMPRS Offshore at Colwick Park, and yes we were made very welcome and had a super day of racing, we are back there on 29th April and 14th of October. Unfortunately Colwick Park suffers terribly from weeding up so is not suitable for Model Boating in the 'weed' season - Late May to end of September. <:(
Shame about the Wicksteed affair. Has anyone considered Colwick Park in Nottingham? I seem to recall they held a National Multi-racing or OMRA do there a few months ago and all were very impressed with the venue etc.

Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club Committee decided for some reason that they did not want anything to do with Mayhem 2012.I think raflaunches (a wpmbc member) said it all in an earlier post, most of us know where/who the problem is, let the majority rule in that club, let them sort it out for themselves and mayhemmers await the invite back, after all Wickies management have for this year lost a lot of money and will lose future income if it's not sorted, they ain't gonna be happy bunnies with wpmbc >>:-(
So if lots of people turn up on what was Mayhem Weekend then the locals might see this as Mayhem 2012 the unofficial version.
For the hope of a change of heart in WPMBC,
and a future invitation to return to Wicksteed ,
then an unofficial meeting might not go down too well with the locals.

we are gutted that Wickstead has been cancelled for what ever reasion. The way I see it is we pick up dust our self off and move on.
Now Wickstead had the advantage of beening in a good central location, with having good roads from the north south and west and the east.
Any on can turn up and pay wickstaed entrance fee to get in to the park and use the lake.
So while we wait to see what mayhem 2013 will be, why done we do an unorgnised mayhem2012. Ok there will be no traders on tea/coffey tent
but there is the lake and hope fully some good weather.
We all injoy this show lets not let it die. All we need is a frequency chart/board for 27mhz and 40 mhz.
So if we turn up on June 2, 2012 Sat and a fun day .
So what do you all say are we in or not.

Hope you will come to the Mayhem annual get-together. If you are staying in London, then the lake is up the main motorway called the M1. It's probably a two hour drive (maybe local members will be more precise ? )
Saturday June 2nd and Sunday June 3rd are the days. I have booked my Hotel and they say there are vacancies. See my 1st letter above.

You will need an hd webcam, a laptop and a wireless dongle / Mi-Fi. You will then need to be connected to an online cam service such as Youcams or Twitcam (for twitter users).
I can supply the webcams if you wish? With 12 meters of cable for walkies.
An IP camera would be more ideal, but we wouldn't have an ethernet connection.

If you have one of those fancy phones and a good allowance of internet usage you can actually turn your phone into a wireless hotspot, routing your Pc/webcam via that.Why not just use one of those tiny camera's that transmit the signal (on 2.4 Ghz) to a base station receiver then link this to a lap top and post it on you tube, both the camera and RX run off a 9v external battery....I bought one for on board boat shots about a year ago....cost £19 inc p&p from Hong Kong, Signal range is approx 1km on a greenfield site :-)) Would be the most economical way of getting some video on t'interweb.

They have opened some nice new ish Loes on site which makes life a bit essayer.
I hope you can make it along as we had a brilliant time on Saturday BBQ and lots of boating two. If you can make it you can have a go with my fishing boat if you want. Tell Dad to bring his lecy boat.

Just realised how whoever called Andy from Models by Design might have got the impression that Wicksteed Park is flooded.Was it not the drain plug rather than the overflow ? Lakes can't go any lower than an overflow unless by leakage or evaporation O0
I sent out a precaution email informing everyone involved warning that the area used around the lake and railway was boggy and it might be worthwhile planning for a back up location near the lake for the traders incase of inclement conditions or if it had not dried up in time.
If anything a few weeks ago the water was pouring out of the lake through an overflow which was discovered by Wicksteed Park after they unplugged it! So we have bunged it up again and the water has returned to the correct depth, enough for Stravros and Phil to wade to their hearts content! :-))
I'm still in, not camping sadly but will be there for the full weekend for sure.
Hopefully have at least two boats with me, still waiting on a replacement prop though!

Well got ou of Olympic village through the tunnel I have been digging there there for the last 7 months, so now I an free. And as a first ever this year I am well ahead of the game.
Boats all checked and ready, caravan loaded and stocked (beans and beer) Tea Urn clean and shiney (thanks to new better half) large stock of Tea bags, coffee and cups for Mayhem central control, radio gear seems to work, but what do I know. Waders checked for leaks, yes they do have some. Camping booked (I will be arriving Thursday and leaving Monday--see well ahead) Markers for the straight running all ready (not sure but rumor has it Stavros has a holigan straight runner....oh :o !!)
So all in all ------ I'm ready , pity that some of our chums will miss it, but I'm sure we will have a little toast to them.
PS Do we know if a camping area has been marked out for us Mayhemers (as I'm probaly going to be the first there--followed closely by Stravros and Mrs Stavros)

I'm holding out hope of having the duck fixed in time, but my Flower Class has a burned out motor (6v monoperm), so I'll have to order a new motor and mount. Will still be there, just maybe not with any of my own boats!

We'll Guy the biggest laugh we have had is that Phil and I decided to get it running so Phil cobbled up a batt and I locked the rudder and we went straight running and it scored a perfect 10 and is a perfect straight runner according to Phil.
Well Tommy has not helped matters at all as he fell inthe lake on the way from the lake so he ended up having an impellers wash with the hosepipe !!!!
And yes I am still alive just about personally I think god help me when I get home and I will be blaming YOU for the divorce lol

So the apprenticeship continues. Got all fired up to make my own boat and managed to persuade (bully/nag/threaten....) Phil into showing me how to do it. Not exactly the moment we arrived home but possibly 30 seconds later. I am very proud of the progress I have made and I only hope that nasty (paying) work doesn't get in the way too much. Mine or his! At the moment he has his 'health and safety' hat on and is banning me from having a spear or sword on the finished article (she's called Boadicea so I feel it's necessary) but I'm plotting a rubber one so she looks scary but can't do any damage. Has anyone had this problem before?
