Some may recognise her, it is the Charles W McKay, shortly before she made razor blades.

The old McKay. Named after a regular contributor to this site.
Built in the early 1920s I think. At one time she was one of the largest cable laying ships around. Cable "laying" as opposed to cable "repair". Big difference.
She also appeared in a Volkswagen advert durin the period when the adverts showed a VW being dropped on top of a little Japanese gentleman.
For many years she operated for an Irish cable company. For the life of me I can't recall the name of the company, but it was always referred to by us in C&W as "Comical Cables Ltd.". (Could it have been "Commercial Cables"?).
She had her life extended so often, and re-equipped for all sorts of tasks. Laid up in Plymouth for years...BY.

It was Cable & Wireless.

Sorry. She wasn't C&W. Spent most of her life belonging to Commercial Cables. She certainly looked like a "grown-up" "Norseman" though. But built around the same time so I'm not surprised....except she was built as a cable layer and not a cable repair ship....hence the difference in size. BY.
