No, over here!
"The project to transform the Spirit of Chartwell into the royal barge is being led by designer Joseph Bennett.

Donated for the occasion by owner Philip Morrell, the vessel is 64 metres long and has a top speed of 11 knots.

Mr Morrell said: "As the Spirit of Chartwell evolved, I knew we had built something special - ideal, I thought, for the carriage of royalty, but little did I even vaguely suspect that in the course of one short year we should be graced with such an honour."  "   Quote from BBC News.

There's a Pic of the 'Spirit of Chartwell' here:

No, over here!

:o Surely that constitutes a direct government subsidy to the UK boat building industry and is, therefore, illegal under EU law? Mind you, we're nearly free of that anyway  ;D

Nice choice for the Queens Diamond Jubilee to lead thee 1,000 boat Pageant, considering the 'Spirit of Charters' is probably unique in being built to virtually Orient Express standard and will not need a huge amount of convertion for its Jubilee role.  ie:  Gilding the wheelhouse and covering it with drapes , removable ornamentation and flowers from the Queens gardens.
See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hntbFLta0nk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hntbFLta0nk)
The boat appears to be in authentic Wagons-Lits period decor, and runs regular all day luxury cruises with top cuisine down the Thames.

How wonderful for Queenie! Once again i wonder who,s paying for all this so called Pagentry? Could it by any chance be the taxpayer? All the hidden costs, Policing, organization. A nice junket for the so called famous. Rest assured that the best viewing places will be reserved for Digniityrs. The public only getting a look in where they are herded. In these times of cut backs should this event not be cut back? John.
