Imagine building this to put in an RC boat

Fantastic piece of engineering.
The compressed air test is great. Would love to see her fired up on gasoline.

Superb bit of craftsmanship

I doubt it can work on fuel - no carburettors and no gaskets fitted between the heads & barrells or barrells & block.
PLUS - no cooling or lubricating system - would sieze in an instant through heat.

Absolutely fantastic achievement never the less  :-)) :-)) :-)).

While not a V12 only a V8 and a bit bigger that the air powered one, we have a member of the Toronto Society of Model Engineers
http://tsme.netfirms.com/ who has a running V8. It is shown at the bottom of this link
"Dave Sage's Howell V8 Project"  http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/HowellV4.htm
Regards,
Gerald.

Yes a beautiful bit of engineering but I don't 'get it!'

It's a model of a V12 internal combustion engine but it works on air (steam)?!?!?
I appreciate it's probably a "demonstration" unit for display only but it only shows off the skill of the craftsman and is not faithful to the original design / concept.

This is more like it!

I think this is the best sounding working miniature V-12.

"it only shows off the skill of the craftsman and is not faithful to the original design / concept."

Martin,
You have indeed missed the point!    "ONLY"???  This is superlative skill in fitting and machining being demonstrated to you and I suggest that there are very, very, few members of this Forum who could emulate him.

That the clip ends with the engine mounted on a plinth strongly suggests that it was never intended to be anything other than a display piece and an excellent one at that.

Just appreciate it for what it is; a miniature work of a machinist's brilliance.

By the way, can anyone identify the background music?

Barry M

Imagine building this to put in an RC boat

i dont know if anyone noticed but the valve timing gear is wrong, on here it shows it as a 1:1 gear ratio not 2:1 as on a proper 4 stroke. Therefore the inlet valve will open on every piston down stroke and the exhaust will open on every piston up, so theres no compression or powerstroke.

not saying its wrong but will only work with compressed air or steam. its still good.

Be nice to see this converted to run on steam power :D

I cant understand why noone has made a 6 cyl diesel and put it in a boat! ok theres a V8 and its sounds good albeit slow as hell but a tug or something with a real diesel in it would be epic :o

What a lovely piece of workmanship, next someone will build one with a super-charger and run on nitros !

What a wonderful piece of machinery and well done to the engineer who had the idea and patience to spend all that time and effort to build  it in the first place,Just think of the planning that went into it to begin with? :-))  :-))

Respect
Bill
