Hello!
I'm Thomas, I'm eleven years old and for christmas I got a Motor Torpedo Boat for christmas and my Dad thought it would be a good idea to put my progress on this site.
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5842.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5842.jpg)
First of all we drilled out the rudder and the prop shaft.
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5844.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5844.jpg)
After doing this we put in the rudder tube.
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5846.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5846.jpg)
Then I fitted together the drive system, before fitting it into the boat to see how it fitted.
This is the boat with all the components fittted . I did all of this myself .
More post coming :-))

Nice work, a neat job!

Hi Thomas and welcome to Modelboat Mayhem.

Good work! :-)) :-)) :-))

Thanks for the comments!
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5881.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5881.jpg)
After doing this we tested that the servo fitted(it did)before screwing it in and bending the push rod to fit the angle.
When this was all correct we used some epoxy filler to strengthen everything, it also helped with waterproofing the prop-shaft.
In the photo there is a wooden bar at deck level. In the plans this was not there and instead there were these small triangles, however when I tested that they fitted they were off by quite a bit, so I reasoned that we should put some beams across instead as even if they were the right angle, they are not big enough!
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_P1170099.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=P1170099.jpg)
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5882.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5882.jpg)
This is how it stands at the moment, I have ordered a battery pack and speed controller.I never really realised how much this stuff costs! >:-o
More posts coming :-))
Whoops! logged on as my Dad :o :o :o

Excellent work it is so nice and refreshing to see a young modeller doing an EXCELLENT job keep up the good work
Dave
-
I agree with what WW said :-))
hey - have you thought about choosing your Avatar yet?
Dave
-
good job keep the pictures coming
-
Hi again,
Do you like the avatar? I drew it myself, it's a member of the anti teddy squad!!!%%
Anyway, as for the build:
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_IMAG0132.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=IMAG0132.jpg)
The ESC and battery arrived in the post a while ago and today we went into Barrow so I got LOTS of money from the bank to pay my dad back.
When we got back We fitted the ESC and battery together with everything else. Here I am testing everything, It worked :} :} :} :} :} :}.
Now, after having the wooden beams in the hull at the same time as the servo arm we found it didn't quite fit {:-{. So my dad whittled away a gap in the wood so that it fits.
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5902.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5902.jpg)
You may have noticed in the picture before this that the deck has been put on! We did this with epoxy resin after roughing up the plastic with sandpaper so that the glue stuck properly.
While the glue dries we have got sellotape holding it in place.

Hello :-)
Recently I have put on most of the parts that go on the deck that are going to be grey like the hull.
First I did the parts at the front of the boat. Then the pieces around the edge after that I assembled the torpedo tubes by wrapping masking tape around them, then running plastic adhesive down the inside. I then took the tape of and have fitted everything on.
This morning i made some makeshift barrels for my guns as we couldn't find the one that came with the kit....... %)
Anyway It is coming along nicely and,
More post coming :-))

TJ
You are doing a fine job.
Watch out for the guy in the blue sweatshirt
He's after the boat {-)
Ned
-
Nah! he has his own!
Now, I have glued the deck onto the hull and have painted the whole thing grey! We have fitted some of the many small details onto the boat's superstructure.
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/th_DSCF5968.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/MTB/?action=view¤t=DSCF5968.jpg)
Here I am drilling holes into the plastic superstructure, wood drill bits seem to do and excelent job at a neat hole.
This is the boat whenit is painted grey {:-{, doesn't look quite right...
...there you go much better after a nice green coat :-)) :-)) :-)).
More post coming :}

Hi Thomas
Yep - bit of colour brings it to life - nice clean line too. :-))
Just love those gloves - mine are falling to bits - might buy
some like those just to puzzle Swmbo. %%
Has the lost gun turned up yet?
Dave
-
Well it wasn't the actuall gun just the barrel, I used some plastic leftovers instead.
As for the gloves I got those for a pound in the market!
tjm :-))
-
Ok I haven't posted for a while, but here is a list...
Here it is with;
the cabin, with windows.
all the small parts on the deck fitted.
the bits of wire
and fully painted!
It floats! we filled the bath to test.
http://youtu.be/5iyiYFERfos
there is a link to the U tube video with it on.
You may notice that the pole on the front is no longer there on the video, well my dad got it out of the car and snapped it off! (I think it actually looked better! :})
And there you go my second ever boat finished!
Thanks for the support,
tjm :-))
-
Well done TJ
Definitely a list on the seat
Watch out for the jellyfish in the test tank
Looking forward to your next build
Ned
-
Very enjoyable TJ and she moves well.
Was that your choice of music?
Are the wires fixed? or can they come out?
On another thread I read that they had put
small springs in first and then attached the
wires to the springs - less chance of damage.
It's something I am going to remember for
the future anyway.
What's next?
Dave
-
Thanks!
As for whats next I don't have a clue...
The music my dad found on U tube and thought it was the right length and ok so...No i didn't choose the music.
tj :-))

Hi From Canada,
It is a real treat to see a young person in the hobby. Great build and looking foward to the next build.
G. George
-
Very nice work Thomas. You have made an excellent job of the build. A model to be very proud of.
-
Based on this excellent build log, over a year ago i see [have just stumbled on it],i have ordered one,is just what i have been looking for.Size, price,ABS Hull, and well done to the young man.Wonder what his next project was/is.Bob.
-
I stumbled upon it too; thanks to you, lakesidebob. :-)
I was wondering about the kit. Who makes it?
-
Good to see someone else has found what they are looking for Harq!Try www.puffinmodels.com (http://www.puffinmodels.com) Ordered mine yesterday. Any problems get back to me.Good Luck.Bob.

If you'd looked here :- http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,44382.0.html (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,44382.0.html) it would have been easier to stumble on.
Regards Ian.
-
Actually,i did start there...but thankyou.
-
Wonder what his next project was/is.
At the moment, he's distracted by the Air Cadets and life in general. I'll try to drag him back to the "true" faith eventually though O0
-
Don't you dare pull him away from the ATC., he might never get the chance (or realise what's available) to do it again. Always wanted to go to an ASR base for a "Boat" trip. Having said that, waggling the stick in a "Chippie" at 14, Same in a glider at 16 and Air exp. flights over the North Sea in a Varsity more than made up.
Regards Ian
-
Ian,
Have no fear, he wont be dragged away from the ATC by me. I wish I was his age and I'd join myself {:-{ .
It seems like a fabulous organisation and far better than the local scouts - which he left to join up as soon as he could. He's going on a week long camp with the ATC very soon....I am so jealous! I wanted to be a pilot when I was a boy but BA told me that, as there'd not be much demand for pilots in the future, I'd best look at something else :o <*<
Cheers!
Robert.

I got looped in a Sedberg glider off a winch tow, I think we had about 10ft clearance. Was a bet between RAF instructor and RAF ground crew. Rest of the cadets thought I was lucky ! Best flight was in a Sunderland flying boat out of West Freugh over Ireland and the Atlantic Ocean, used the Elsan :embarrassed: and made bacon butties for the aircrew on the hotplate O0 (not in that order !) . Loved the vibrating fabric sides of the Ansons %% . Yes keep him in the Air Cadets. :-))
-
Don't know how much annual camp is now, Was 10/- for the week, 50p for the great unwashed. Lot more available to
dump er send us to 50 years ago. Worst was Manston, vast stretch of bu**er all to do. Their claim to fame was being a major diversion airfield, could dump foam three feet onto the runway so a crashing plane wouldn't spark.
Regards Ian.
Hm, My last flight of the day in a MK3 was for the instructor to beat up the "Box crew" waggon and then "Park" it in the hanger. First day was frightening the c**p out of us with "Attack - Attack - Attack" by our two instructors, both ex WW2 pilots.

Hi Harqebus, did you persue the Vladyka MTB? Mine is almost ready for launch, real pleasure to assemble, perhaps a few too many fiddly bits of plastic to lose, but the fit and finish of the molded main parts is superb.Wished it was slightly larger too,but for the outlay, can't complain.Bob.
