Title: Browser update
Post by: tobyker on January 19, 2012, 07:16:00 pm
I've had my explorer browser for a while now. Suddenly I get a screen saying my browser is out of date "download now". Despite having the "E" explorer logo on it, it didn't look right to me so I cancelled the screen and turned off the PC. It seems to be working fine again, but has anyone else had this? Is it dodgy, or just Mr Gates' minions being more than usually abrupt? Perhaps I'd better go to the Microsoft update site and see what they say.

What version of IE are you using?

I understand microsoft has 'buried' IE 6 only the other week.

However, MS like other browsers, have pop ups every so often encouraging you to update and remove bugs from older versions.

I havent used IE for years now and use Firefox. Mozilla send updates out virtually every month.

It's almost certainly a scam to hack your PC and download something horrible.

If you want to update Internet Explorer, visit the Microsoft website yourself and do it from there.

As Justboatonic says, Microsoft has ceased to support IE6 as it is no longer compatible with a lot of modern software. The latest verion is IE9.
