Title: 1/96 scale figures
Post by: bobk on January 30, 2012, 04:20:56 pm
I was just painting up a nice set of 1/96 marine figures from Deans for my WW1 destroyer when I noticed one of the figures is definitely a woman.  The set say 12 figures, but I had 15 in the box.
From what I know of 1906 Navy ships complements I am concerned as to how to include this figure on the ship.  If I place her on the bridge beside the Captain would this be likely to cause a dangerous distraction when passing near rocks?  I don’t want my ship ending up on its side.  If I put her right at the bows have I got enough life boats or will I need a sound module to play “My Heart Will Go on”?
Suggestions please.

Not so easy to photograph, figure only 1/2 inch tall . . .

Not a hefty 1900's matelot I believe

Anomaly solved !  The 'extra' figure is from a Deans 1/100 scale set of civilian figures.
Perhaps she likes sailors, and jumped boxes?

Thanks Bernard, but one is enough  :embarrassed:  It seems her elopement may not be an isolated case then.
It is nice when you get more figures in a set than expected.  I have decided to name her "Rose", placing her at the bow next to the "Jack"staff, and will see if anyone notices when the ship is sailed.  Tee hee !  :}

Dear Bobk,

Every time I click to get out of this, you reply with something humerous that I have to reply to O0 {-)

LOL! But there are so many purists around I am told/led to believe that you will never ever get away with it! {-)

At least the female figure that you found Bob can be used, try finding somewhere to hide Geisha's,unless your boat is going to be stationed out east. ok2

Ron Dean told me that he had to include her in the box because he had a visit from some government worker who informed him that it was illegal for him not include a 1/96 scale woman.  He tried to explain that women did not serve aboard warships in WW1 and WW2 but was told that he could not sell this box set without her, so he included her to avoid all the red tape.
PC gone mad again!

it was illegal for him not include a 1/96 scale woman.

I would have included a figure in some form of gunnery wear and just said - that one's the woman mate. <*<

That aside I'm building a USA 1930's art deco ferry soon (just awaiting plans) and I would like to source some
passengers 1:96. Any suggestions? .......... If the suggestion comes in period dress I will think you are amazing

If modern dress - any suggestions for alteration?

Dave

Seriously now, I suggest you check out the Deans 1/100 scale set of civilian figures.  They look ideal for your 1930's ferry.  The difference in scale height from 1/96 is less than 1mm.

I'm just building a Deans 1/96 Puffer and was thinking of using some 00 scale figures I've got from my rail modelling days, they look about right.

Hi guys

I might get some of both. Re how many - I don't really know.
A ferry needs passengers on deck - so I'll suck it and see on
the numbers. Painting appropriate dress might be a bind but
it needs to look correct. I can get away with some navy too
as it ran to Bremerton Shipyards during the war. Repeated
figures might need a little plastic modding too.
