Title: Is this a stabiliser on this workboat ?
Post by: Celestialsphere on February 17, 2012, 02:14:19 am
Hello everyone,

I found this photo of an interesting workboat (former fishing boat) on a Norwegian boat sales website.

I am wondering if the rectangular plate device midships near the keel is a stabiliser of some kind? Can anyone confirm this and perhaps tell us how it would work?

Thank you

I don't think it is a stabilizer, I reckon its a housing for a echo sounder transducer. If it does deep sea work the transducers can be over 30 cm diameter.

Guys, I reckon you're right.

For the benefit of everyone here is a couple of links to info about these transducers and the mounting arrangements -

A pdf of mounting arrangements - http://www.simrad.com/www/01/NOKBG0397.nsf/AllWeb/C83FE56ECEE5C060C125763F0037BAEA/$file/074544af_es38b_3-7_mounting_arrangement_with_dwg.pdf?OpenElement (http://www.simrad.com/www/01/NOKBG0397.nsf/AllWeb/C83FE56ECEE5C060C125763F0037BAEA/$file/074544af_es38b_3-7_mounting_arrangement_with_dwg.pdf?OpenElement)
