Hello all, I am thinking of building a Springer Tug, want to keep cost down by using what I already have. That is a Multiplex Permax 400 7.2v motor, a 30 amp E.S.C. and a 7.2v 2000 mAh nicad. I just want something to potter around with when there is not enough breeze for my yacht, and maybe rescue my yacht if necessary.

You'll have to show us some pictures when you get going on her. :-))

Sorry didn't really finish my post. My question is, given the size of motor that I have, what size hull should I be thinking of?

I recommend the Springer section for a jolly good read. These are my favourite craft for rescue needs. (I've got 4)
However, I feel a 400 size motor might not be strong enough for rescue work as these can be 'heavy' craft, unless, of course, you construct a light version. Superb for 'bashing around. and general mistreatment in amateur hands (mine)
Hope this helps

If you need to rescue a yacht you will have the problem of still having wind in the sails so
a pretty beefy motor will be needed. It's sod's law that you will be pushing back against the wind
if not the wind will probably blow the yacht back anyway.
