Title: mirror sailing dinghy
Post by: Jerry C on March 10, 2012, 08:25:38 am
I was just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with the 11ft mirror dinghy, I have been toying with the idea of a light and easy sailboat and have been offered an old mirror with sails but no mast.

Never owned one but have sailed one. Great little fun boat, VERY popular over here, great for learning and/or a bit of club type racing.

As long as the hull, rigging and attachment points are sound I cant see how you can go wrong. Do check carefully for rot if its a wooden one, and cracks if its fg. Check the sails around the stitching, particularly at the stress points.

Getting a mast shouldnt be too hard - you could make one out of a nice bit of spruce easily enough.

We used to have one years ago. I think dad bought it at the Boat show in 1974!

I think the sails are still in his shed...
