Hi Heron

Please forgive me if you know this already but you may want to consider buying an 'automatic' charger that stops the charging process automatically when it detects 'peak voltage'.

These chargers are quite cheap these days and will enable you to safely fast charge your NiCad and NimH packs. Most model shops stock this type of charger. This type of charger will usually charge lead-acid and LiPo batteries as well so they are a very useful piece of kit. Some of the chargers work from a 12v power supply and some can work from either mains or 12v.

Here is a charger that works from 12v http://www.giantcod.co.uk/power-b606-balance-charger-lipo-nimh-battery-p-406285.html (http://www.giantcod.co.uk/power-b606-balance-charger-lipo-nimh-battery-p-406285.html)

Here is one can work from either mains or 12v: http://alshobbies.com/shop/lookupstock.php?pc=48073 (http://alshobbies.com/shop/lookupstock.php?pc=48073) - I have one of these and it is very easy to use and does a good job.
