The 504's are still with us I see :(( :(( :((
Wont let me use my user name as it is a reserved name. Whats that supposed to mean ? (http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p8/DickyD_photos/Smileys/angry2.gif)
Sorted!
Aha, Now the cat is out of the bag, Dickie has some political pull O0 O0 O0I wish .(http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p8/DickyD_photos/Smileys/111017115313315746.gif)
Still picking up the pieces after the crash:
1. Thanks to everyone that emailed me encouragement & helped me through the diagnosis process.
2. Just PM (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1) me if you want your post count reinstated with how many posts you think you had - it's a very quick fix..... and I know how to do that!
Returning our post count would be nice, but much more useful would be returning our PMs. Is there any chance of getting these back? Mine had a lot of useful information and contacts... <:( <:(
Been trying to update my profile with an Avatar photo of 190kbs but keep getting this error message "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."Had the same thing Barry, fortunately my avatar was in the table at the top of the profile.
Any one got any ideas or am I trying to run before all is sorted, if so, sorry Martin I will be patient.

If it's your old avatar Footski, it is in the list
I saw it when looking for mine.
There are quite a few to trawl through lol
Ned
I notice that, having had to recreate my login, I no longer own my own Nobby build log. Could this cause me any problems with editing? Nothing springs to mind but I'm wondering.
hi Footski ,try no 1424 for your avatar :-))
or was it 3184
aye
john
No Nobby, it's still yours and we all know that,
... as below, I'm still trying to reconnect all the old accounts.
Is there anything we can do to help you reconnect the old accounts?
Well I'm still trying to work through the problem but initial findings:
1. Don't always believe what the software writers say about their backup system.
2. A Hosting company's IT support dept. can actually be less than useless.
Got my old username back (AlanP) but I have been demoted to shipmate with no posts or PMs <:( <:( <:(
Stout effort, please wear your loudest shirt :-))
In the Avatar section of the profile there are over 11000 avatars , you are in there somewhere..
Morning
Made a posting yesterday in this section at 05,59 and still not apeared but shows up in my profile when looking at last posts any ideas ?
Regards
Colin
I’m holding off on that until I understand the full implications on all the new accounts we’ve created
When you register and it won't accept you original name, try putting the number 2 next to it.
That way, we should know who was posting and it might make it easier to tie up the links.
cheers

Not too mention, that those that use an Avatar :-)) :-)) are instantly recognisable O0 O0 even if your 'name' has changed slightly {-) {-)
Hi,
could one of the mods reinstate my old account login sez i don't exist, and only way to get on was to register.
{:-{ :(( {:-{ :(( {:-{ :(( {:-{ :((
What was you old avatar, I'll reinstate it.. :-))
Any better now?
After the meltdown, I had to re-register, and have now noticed that my post count is only 1,previously before the meltdown it was over 100, does this mean that i,ll have to have 25 posts before i can sell an item, {:-{A good question. I'm in the same boat!!!!! as are lots of others. I know Martin is trying to sort out the posts problem but I look forward to a response to this specific question.
Its a Model Boat Forum Al, not analysis!!
... Being the 30th anniversary of the Falklands conflict I zeroed in on that, and was surprised at many of the subsequent comments by "mayhemmers" were in a way very apposite to the situation we, as a country, now find ourselves in. Lack of resources. Money, in other words. But our "politicians" still seem to find the defence of the country subservient to squandering £Billions on welfare. I despair.....again. BY.
I wonder if we need a FAQ?
It could cover the timeline of what happened, the current state of the forum, what is expected to be done over the next few weeks/months and what forum members can best do to maintain the smooth running of the board without disturbing Martin more than necessary...

It would help us if we knew your OLD NAME
If this won't register then the current advice is to put the number 2 next to your old name and register.
That way we can assimilate them and link them together.
It should appear in the "News Box" top right of the forum!Very Good! Then please get the latest advice about how to rename yourself (oldname+2) added to it then, plus any other new recommendations which we need to comply with....Mayhem is Back!

Thought Martin had re-rigged it for our Anti-podium members
Did you mean antipodean? Anti podium means not wanting to be on a stage...
Hi Ken
I have been trying to post pictures all morning to no avail?
Russ
Just another advantage to being in a different time zone on the other end of the world - our evening is different to yours and the forum is right there when we need it thanks !! Ian.
Thank you for your valliant efforts Martin. The main thing is this valuable resource is working, for which we are truly grateful.
If I've 'lost' a few PM's and had to create a new name that is no big deal. 1,171 of us are back in communication.
Muchas Gracias! Grazie mille! Merci mille fois! Herzlichen Dank!
Bob K (was bobk)
Oh and it brought Ghosty out of Hibernation.. :}
Hey Catengineman - just noticed your avatar
Ooh - It makes me feel ill (nothing personal)
It's a bit like being on the waltzers .......
Dave

thank you bringing the mayhem back on line but i can get on pages like i used to ....Larry...
I'm not sure why there is such a fuss about the post count.... this to me is a badge of shame :embarrassed:... It shows how much time I spend on the forum and how many stupid questions I must have asked lol {-)Badge of shame and stupid questions to you maybe, to others, how long they have spent on the forum helping others.

As i suggested in a response to an email from Martin last week - the reinstatement of the site back to it's original form prior to the crash, if that's at all possible, would be a far preferable solution imho.
Mark,
Under topic "forum news etc", a similar comment, namely, switch back recover all data etc and lose all recent posts, was suggested.
It would seem that this is preferable to many in the main.
However, I do not recall it being said that this is possible but if it is, maybe we should seriously consider it.
One advantage of which is that the hosting guys are within coffee cup throwing distance of my desk :D and the servers are physically downstairs
^^^ yeah
pm's would certanally be good to have back ( although i didnt have many ) but i think i had an un-read one just before the meltdown
who knows
the pm might have contained the emergency panic button that could have saved the forum {-)
Keep drinking the coffee Martin :-)) you will get there in the end..
Is it such a big deal that your posts are no longer attributed to you? the information is still there for others to see. I'm sure thats the most important thing.
or an
infinite number of monkeys capable of writing all the works of Shakespeare!

....the only real way to test a full backup is to restore it somewhere else and see if it works?!?!? ...

Yes that my thinking too...
we have been using these ones at work recently for some database modification and verification. I'm sure I can arrange for them to help you on an ad-hoc basis subject to a satisfactory renumeration package.... I hear they are very fond of outspan and Fyffes

Maybe because we are down under O0 O0 , since the meltdown, I am getting a lock up, the site freezes when I try and log out.
Have to shut down my browser and reopen the browser/site then I can log out. {:-{ {:-{ {:-{
Couple of times after signing in, when I've pressed the "Login" button I've receive a change profile instruction screen and also after posting, at times it's difficult to log out, the screen "Hangs" and I have to leave explorer, start explorer again, sign into MBM again to then Logout otherwise I'm still lit up on the forum but can't make an entry. Yes, I'm on IE and no, I don't want a different one. Any web site programme generator worth his salt makes sure ALL work properly.
Regards Ian.
There seem to be lots of 504 timeouts today, it makes you wonder if the servers just can't cope with the extra traffic at holiday times .......
Checked site figures 93 guests and 29 users? less than at normal times.???????????
Please bear in mind there are frequently over 100 users accessing this forum, which is a heck of a lot more than many others I read, with most accessing searching and dowloading content.
