Title: First Submarine build photos
Post by: 2051476 on April 01, 2012, 07:38:03 pm
Here's the build of my first R/C (or for that matter any R/C) Submarine Robbe U47. I finally got everything working. now I'll move on to the finishing the hull, conning tower will post as that work as it  takes place. I would like to thank everyone in the Forum who helped with all my questions and meet some real nice folks. A special thank to BBDave who's WTC tray was my inspiration and Sub John for my technical problems. My real concern now is will the sub be water tight, I'll cross that bridge down the road. On the tray I've made it so I'll have the ability to break it down and repair or replace items no glue on the tray at all. One problem I did have was that I used Plexiglas/ACRYLIC which caused a lot of problems with tapping the treads for the screws and when I drilled, it caused a lot of fractures so I replaced all of them expect the rear bulkhead (3/4' / 18mm thick) with POLYCARBONATE which worked great

If anyone has any comments on things I could change for the better please respond

I'll send more photos shortly
John

We love pictures     :-))

You can post up to 12, but I find 5 or 6 is enough to sit and wait to be developed.   {-)

You can use PVC sheet plastic. This will be cheaper than lexan and very tough. it will be opaque but that isn't an issue for a tech rack.

Marcus I used the tube that came with the Robbe U-47. I think it's 90mm and how ever long the tube was not sure. As far the electronics I used a RokRft 120 6-12 ESC. the TX and RX are both Robbe (F14 twin stack, since I'm in the US it's 75mhz) also used a bayonet lock ring which you can get from Engel  (http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_179&products_id=1801 (http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_179&products_id=1801)  -  http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=141_215&products_id=509 (http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=141_215&products_id=509)) Along with Engel's TA812-6V Piston Tank (http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_29&products_id=70 (http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_29&products_id=70)). Used a BEC I got from Castle (http://www.castlecreations.com/products/ccbec.html) I had some radio interference so I had to use a ferrite ring on the leads to the piston tank, now works great this was thanks to Sub John

If there's any thing else send me a PM glad to help, I needed a lot of help on this and everyone on the forum was great. Depending on the weather should have sea trials before Christmas

Good Luck to you on your project

John
