Title: Spearfish motor?
Post by: U-33 on April 06, 2012, 09:36:51 am
I've got one of these motors laying about...wired it all up, suppressed it with a full ACTion rfi kit, and hooked it up to an ACTion P93 High Power Controller. It works perfectly, ever so smooth in operation, and seems to have plenty of oomph on six volts...on a 12volt pack it really comes alive.

Question...any comments on these motors? I'd like to use it in my Spearfish...what you think, guys?

Rich,
According to the spec on the ACTion website these motors run at 6500 rpm no load on 12 volts.
The old Marlin which was in these originally ran at 9000 rpm no load on 12 volts.
So should be a bit down on top end speed.

That's not too bad then, Bob...maybe I can increase the battery pack size up a bit, just looked at the P93 spec sheet and it will handle 24volts, so an increase up to 2 x 8.4v packs might be the way to go. I'm not after out and out top speed, just a decent run time and bit of speed every now and again...speed isn't allowed on our lake(remember the saga with George, the Sea Jet)

If you keep her light she should be ok.
You might want to try her and decide to upgrade motor later these weren't exactly flying machines with a Marlin in them.

I can see me flexing my poor old flexible friend again...a brushless motor, set of lipos, charger....my flexible friend is going rigid at the thought of it all.    :o

It's not an ACTion motor, it's a 775 not a 755. Probably out of a drill, which means it could be any wind at all...

This certainly ain't one of ours. It has a genuine Mabuchi code on the torque ring whereas ours were made in China (and don't). I would hesitate to put a 775 into a big boat like that............ but I still have a couple of 900's left, all shiny and new and looking for a good home  ok2  One would more than do you here, especially on 18v+!
You may well need to go the P98 which will handle 'Stavros' levels of amps and volts rather than P93 which is a '10A continuous maximum' affair.  8)

Rich,
You don't need another motor on 12 volts no load it will give 12000 rpm.
Just what you need on a 2 blade racing prop on about 3/4 throttle she should be fine.

Got plenty of props, Bob...2 blade, standard and X configurations, starting at 25mm and going on up to 50mm.

Be a lot cheaper than buying new motors/batteries/esc's/etc...
