I have been asked to organise a sub day at Norwich ( Eaton Park) but first let me clear up some confusion.
The date is the 29th of July 2012 and not August bank holiday as in previous years.this is to avoid a clash with the Warrington clubs event. This year I would like to hear your views about making this an International Two day event,i.e 28th and 29th of July.it is hoped that this will give plenty of travelling and sailing time not only to our British modellers but also our friends from Europe
The Clubhouse has plenty of space for secure overnight storage of models with several members volunteering to stay as extra security ,we have excellent facilities for charging and repairs and a meeting room with Kitchen facilities.if this is O.K then I will put the clubs barbeque into action and supply Burgers, bacon rolls etc.we can also arrange transport into the Historic city of Norwich for wives etc
to do some shopping or sightseeing
This will take a little bit of effort and so I need to know who would want to attend and if the dates are O.K
all questions will be answered a.s.a.p by me or Paul Cook
This Event is for Submariners only
So there we are, what do think of the proposal
Regards Admiral Donuts
All free of charge

HI ADMIRAL DONUTS
Have got a large sub about 12FT long first question is how deep is the pool and is there a slip way in to the water, trying to pick it up to get it in to the water would be impossible as it weights 500LBS and even worst trying to get it back out of the water.
Sounds a great idea to me just having a sub day or sub diving

Hi Subjohn,The pond is 440 ft x 84ft and is 3 to 4 ft deep. The clubs web site is norwichmodelboatclub.com
Your boat is big and heavy but not a problem to launch and recover as I can borrow an engine crane and possibly a mini forklift and a couple of lifting straps
Are you still tempted to sail this beast cos I cannot wait to see it in action
Regards Donuts

error sorry

HI Admiral Donuts
IM sure i came down to Norwich about 20 years ago but did not realize at the time i first posted on hear at the time we could not get it in to the water , fine on the water being about 3 to 4FT deep if the keel of the sub was stood on the floor the top of the periscopes would come up to my waist. When you see it on pictures you do not get the true idea of the size of it, i would very much like to bring it to some shows this year main problem i have at the moment we have just changed the car and have no tow bar on new car, as it is a Megan estate it is going to be expensive to have one fitted.
Donuts i need to take the sub out for a test run before i take it any where, i only have to fit one antenna and sub is ready to go out
All the best SUB JOHN

Hi Subjohn, thanks for the reply, big subs are a problem to haul around I agree,Megane Tow bars are not cheap and main dealer prices are
heavily inflated,I suggest an after market type from Witter or Towwin etc
Keep me posted

Hello John, i have photos of your Gato at Eaton Park, back in 1993, my 32nd Parallel (9ft 9") is nearing completion and should be at the pond soon, although not operational just yet.

Have fun at Norwich everyone!
Well worth going for anyone who has not been there yet. Worth travelling for, in my opinion.
Sadly, I am not able to go this year.
(I'm just packing my bags to go to the Dortmund Intermodellbau, this year, and something had to give!)

"The date is the 29th of July 2012 "
Hopefuly, provided I get either or both of my submarine projects completed, I aim to be there. Should be plenty of time (fatal words) !
Shallow end. Look out for the "L" plates. Please have long pole handy just in case. {-) %% O0

Hello all, i can confirm after speaking to Dave Watson the Norwich Model Boat Club Chairman last sunday that the event is to be a 2 day event over the 28th and 29th, the clubhouse will be fully avaliable to all guests we have mains power for charging and models can be left there overnight - i cannot commit definatly at the moment but i am willing to stay in the clubhouse overnight as security.
Geoff Johnson is going to run the event, my wife is expecting our first child on august 22nd, so nature may have other ideas and its my youngest sons 10th birthday on the 29th july so i cannot fully commit to anything i am sorry to say until the weekend, but i will be there at some point.

With a bit of luck, a bottle of stout and a following wind, I'll be coming up for this Paul...keep me a space in the clubhouse, it'll save me driving all the way to Cromer for the night!

HI Paul
Congratulations on the new baby hope it all goes well. It seems a long time ago that i was at Eaton park, won't to see if i can get that beast of mine on the water this year quite a few people won't to come and see it on the water when i take it out, trouble is the first time you try it you don't won't a lot of people there as you need to concentrate on what you are doing, as it has been such a long time since it has been on the water i have wondered if there is any cracks in the hull or pressure plates that i can not see but hopefully time will tell
Seen some pictures of your gato on face book looking very good hope you get it on the water soon
All the best Sub John

HI PAUL
Seen some of your pictures of the sub on facebook looking really good, was looking into having tow bar fitted on to Megan estate car to tow sub it was a good job we didn't pay to have it done as Pauline was in a Que of traffic when a car hit her in the back of the car and pushed the car into the car in front all so smashing the front end of the car and wrote the car off, the guy that hit her said he could not stop he said there must have been diesel fuel on the road its a good job i was not in the car other wise i would have been well miffed off. Don't know wheather i can get to the show or not yet
All the best John

Hi guys,The big day is nearly here, the pond is very clear at the moment with minimal weed.Parking at the pondside is sorted
and all bodes well for a good two days sailing. We havw installed a new access gate thirty feet from the pond so no long slow drives through the park,Please note all cars must turn left into the access when entering and left out on to the road when leaving.this is a planning condtion and seems a small price to pay for better car parking
Look forward to seeing you all again

Check #9 above, Bill..

This Event is for Submariners only
Sorry if I am missing the obvious here - but do you mean only submariners are welcome to attend or that only submarines may sail?
Dave
-
You can attend as a spectator. The water is kept exclusive for submarines.
On the one occassion I attended, the pond was roped off about half way along it's length, and there were some surface boats operating on the other side. Not sure if that's being repeated or if the whole pond is being set aside for subs this time around.
-
Wishing you all a good weekend and a succesful event.
Just a reminder though that it IS a public pond and other shipping may be encountered.
I'm keeping my boats away in the interest of safety.
