ARGH!!!!!!!
Ulverston is HEAVING today. I've just been to Booths. Normally, you get the whole place to yourselves...today I had to queue! >>:-(
They're parked everywhere! <*<
I can't park my car within 1/4 mile of the house. <:(
I wish they'd all go home!
-
Should imagine that the local shops and business think otherwise.. A lot of towns would kill for some good business and regular tourists.
-
We always said a lot of businesses in the Lakes would be a lot happier if you just posted them some money and didn't bother them further......
-
Of course, somebody has come to stay with us for the weekend and it may be colouring my view right now.
-
I should imagine people who live in poorer communities would give there right arm to park there car a 1/4 mile away if they had the chance to live in the Lake district....

Oh so Sorry to hear of your terrible attitude having just returned form Honeymoon up in the lake district I am trully shocked at your pompus attitude, may I remind you of a little fact of life WITHOUT the tourist there wouldnt be any jobs up in your part of the world.
I have nothing but praise for all the curtious shop keeprs and hotel staff up in your area and suggest the whole of the uk should go up and see how to treat customers in general.

I see that married life has yet to dampen down your enthusiam for combat, Dave.
To RMaddock - at least the b*ggers don't telephone you at all hours of the day (and night) wanting to talk about their model boats.....Bank Holiday apparently means nothing to them..........and we had two Spaniards in a limo turn up at the house looking for 'our shop' the other day!
Count yer blessings, dude. Your visitor(s) will soon be gone.

Oh dear, I've upset people.
Hey ho. C'est la vie.
Yes, I'm honoured to live here.
Yes, lots of people's incomes rely on tourism.
For reference purposes, I'd just point out that much of the income round here comes from the arms business, pharmaceuticals and nuclear power generation. Our personal income has nothing to do with tourism. You'll find some of the poorest people in the country within a stones throw of here.
Oh, and my initial comment could well have been tongue in cheek based on my just having had a bad time trying to park outside my house due to wedding guests at the local church having parked so badly and the fact that our house guest is an elderly lady who cannot walk more than a few yards.
Alternatively I could just be a pompous bigot who doesn't know he's born.....you choose.

well, I've just had a glorious week with wall tio wall sunshine the whole week down in Kent...............and what a wonderful time I had......
the only grump I have is that they never put the entrance price on the brocures you pick up at tourist info places.........you then turn up to beautiful sites like Leeds Castle only to find that it'll cost you a hundred notes just to get in the grounds without access to the castle....grump over.......
what a fantastic county though.
Ps..anyone fancy an Arun class lifeboat ......there's one in Ramsgate harbour with two blown Caterpiller engines.........going for a song I believe, lol {-) {-) {-) %% %% %% %% %%
-
Leeds Castle
You sure you were in kent Neil? %)
-
yep.......mind you always puzzles me why ol' 'enry the 8th called a beautiful castle in kent after some place in yorkshire, lol %% %% %% %%

I had a great day out in Ulverston today.
Booths was particularly good, spent ages in there.
Lots of easy parking too!

should be in perranporth cornwall thursday the place was empty friday could not move all the junk shops were open every body happy except the weather come september beach empty shops closed PEACE LOVERLY PLACE TO LIVE 5 MINS FROM BEACH so i do feel sorry for the people who live in smoky cities that is why we put up with them for a few weeks :-)) :-))
-
Seriously, I think the UK is good when it comes to tourism if you stay away from the
'Golden Miles' and suchlike seaside resorts.
Everywhere we have stayed in UK from Cornwall up to Mallaig and Aberdeen down to Romney
the people we have come in contact with have been so courteous and welcoming we would not
think of holidaying anywhere else.
Part of the cost of living in a popular tourist area is the disruption to normal life for a few bank holidays
and a couple of months midsummer.
The beach my airedale runs on from October to Easter is out of bounds since yesterday, parking will now
be a problem and the RNLI will be rescuing people off the sandbanks because the 'cumfits' can't or won't
read the signs and the red flags.
Ned
'cumfits'
People from South Yorkshire who 'cumfit daay'

I collect amusing T shirts. I have a wonderful old one with a monty Python style Gumbo character and the caption . . .
"I'm a Tourist. I Wouldn't Live Here If You Paid Me".
What parts of the country would this be most suitable for ? {-)
-
Reading springs to mind as the most boring town I have lived in.
Ned
-
Went to Skeggie on the bus Thursday , mistake one; the bus was full of giggling girls going to Butlins for the day then spent the rest of the afternoon dodging mobility scooters that was mistake two. Mistake three took her from the kitchen with me ended up carrying mountains of shopping. Thats it for me and Skeggie , except for lifeboat day until September.
What it is to be Old and Grumpy
Bob

I was run over by a mobility scooter in Skeggie
I was just getting up when another backed into me :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
Ned

What parts of the country would this be most suitable for ? {-)
Sileby, Leicestershire - One village with one face - even the dogs there have club feet;
Arkwright Town, Chesterfield - the Luffwaffe bombers heading for Sheffield actually flew around it;
Albert Village, Leics - where the sparrows fly backwards to keep the muck out of their eyes;
and last and by all means least -
Shirebrook, Notts - where they still think Elvis is alive, and anyone with an IQ of over 90 is called a snob (and is very, very lonely......)
Only my opinion, mind you 8)

Mick
ps hope you enjoyed your Holiday.AND I am going to be a tourist up in Ulverston also,so I will have to join the throngs getting into Booths!
-
...I will have to join the throngs getting into Booths!
It's all or nothing in there. Just a couple of weeks ago I was in there in the evening and was the only customer. It happens quite often. All the till operators sit about chatting. It must be what it's like to be the Queen when she goes shopping....which I'm sure she does. O0

forgot to add to rmmaddock
We down here in Cornwall have to be polite to our visitors,as we rely on their money to sustain us,and a few short weeks of the influx of kids and families, has to be accepted, so that we can come up to the Lake district and annoy you lot! lol.
My main gripe is the utter idiots who have no respect for the sea,and put our Lifeboat Service at risk through their own stupidity in most cases.I cant climb a lake district peak, much as I would like to, so why do people who cant climb cliffs come down here and do it?
Call them Emmets, grockles or whatever you want, but to me the daft ones are known as PILES ----- a pain in the ar**
-
Hi Mick....yeh.......great time down in the sun......just a lovely place..........looking forward to seeing you again......don't forget the lifeboat, lol %% %%
