Hi all,
I'm new to Mayhem and a but rusty on model boat building. I'm currently trying a "scratch" build 1/48 Waverley but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for lifeboats as maybe they're available ready made somewhere.
If not then any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Will give Mike a ring regarding the lifeboats. Still waiting for planking to arrive. Have been working on forward deck house and bridge etc in the meantime which is where the lifeboats come into the plan as you know.
Keel and frames done. Promenade deck made in 3 sections. Front deckhouse and bridge under way.

Keep forgetting things then having to undo what I did last. Put lower paddle box piece on 3 times so far today. Think its right now. Did the little fiddly bits around the toilets on the sponson thingy on starboard side.Port side tomorrow.
Someone said like playing chess with 5 people at the same time. I'll go for that.
Will upload pics tomorrow in daylight cos my Galaxy S hasn't got a flash.

hi,
when i built my waverley i made lifeboats from card. just build them with a keel and frame, they look great when painted use the plan and have a play with it you can then say you have scratch built it. i dont bye any parts if i can make it my self.

I've always thought card might work. Went to B&Q today for some fibreglass resin. They don't do it any more. Apparentley Halfords do a kit for £12.99. My hull planking needs serious sealing. Any ideas? Boats are meant to float and this Waverley needs intensive care to make it watertight. She looks longer and lower than Ken's but is probably the same size. Built from old ship plan. Would it be ok to use cardboard tube for the funnels with maybe some resin or something on them? Have included latest pics.

DeLuxe materials Eze Cote is a good product for sealing planking and a lot of other materials too. Water clean up as well.

i used (davids fastglas resin) you can get a 250ml tin for about £4.00 x hardener £2.00 at this end of wales, on the local market. i dont know if you have any like this in barry but halfords are not cheap, shop arround

Thanks all for the replies.
My super pc forgot that I wanted to stay logged in and forgot my password etc.
A few raids on the grey matter eventually revealed the right one.
Anyway she is coming on OK and is going for a float test tomorrow evening hopefully at Cold Knap lake in Barry.
Maybe I'll try towing her around with the Glasgow if its not too windy or wet.
Still not having much success with lifeboats and I'm finding gears or belt/chain drive difficult to organise. A lot of these cogs, gears, belts etc are push fit on to the shaft but I would prefer a grub screw or something more substantial.
The motor has a 6mm shaft and the paddle shaft will probably be 5mm but I am of course open to suggestions as to a drive solution.
A suitable idea to imitate the green tarpaulin on the life jacket storage on the paddle boxes would be appreciated as so far mine are just painted balsa.
All suggestions greatly appreciated and any questions that you may have then please feel free to ask.

Went to Cold Knap lake on Sunday. A bit breezy. Glasgow did a valiant attempt towing her around for an hour leaving some slight water ingress in 2 sections around the shaft area but now cured with more resin inside and out. Next step is paddles, gears/ belt drive, stanchions and railings from Waverley models and Glasgow's borrowed radio temporarily.
