Martin has sold me his Sovremenny GMD Smasher RTR as long as I butcher it on the forum.

The first job was to strip of the main deck. Be warned this sticks like **** to a blanket and I hadd to take care not to split the plastic.

I then took photos of all the bits so that I knew which which holes to fill and where all the bits had to go after painting.

When this was done a hole was cut in the deck to enable a larger battery to be used and to gain access to the motors.
A combing was made to go round the opening.

More later.

Next job was to make sure the battery fitted.
I removed the fixed ballast from the hull and replaced it with a larger battery to give a longer running time.
I cut the rear end off the main deck to give a removable panel to give access to the rudder.

The next job was to fill in all the screw holes in the decks as I am going to stick the decks down and waterproof them.
I also fitted new rails for the mines.
I then rubbed down the superstructure parts and primed them.
I am now waiting for my receiver, servo and speed controller to arrive before I go any further.
-
I have reassembled the superstructure and painted it.
I am still waiting for the electrical bits for the interior before I stick the deck down
I still have to paint the hull.

Thanks Tony, it kept me busy for a few days.

Looks good Dicky, old comrade...

How do you sand into all those 'nooks and crannies' without going mad?
What primer are you using?

Mad, who me ? (http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p8/DickyD_photos/Smileys/image00334343.gif) I use the wifes emery boards and needle files.
I use Plastikote primer and Revell acrylics for detail work.

I have at last managed to get back to this build.
All the electrical bits have arrived and been installed

When did the racing props go? Any problems fitting the "proper" ones?
Any plans to change the name? The full list of real ones here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovremenny_class_destroyer

Hi Malcolm props came off easy, had to remove shafts and trim a bit off so that the new props with lock nut did up tight enough.

Hi Peter PM on way.
-
Any chance of a link to the props you used ?
-
Re a name change - looking through the list of real names, I thought "What would Glynn Guest do?", and the great man would pick a name in character that hadn't been used. Using the magic of tinternet, "Relentless" comes out as "неотступный". Just thinking aloud.

Your link my man, seemed to have missed the props off the build, my apologies.

Have now finished this build.
The decks have been glued down and the minor touch up of paint has been carried out.
Hope fully on to the next build.

its half the size and more scaled to the boat. Remember this boat as with all these are copies of trumpeter kits normally. to get out of copyright laws they alter something. on this boat the helicopter is out of scale. on bismarck there are missile boxes where the arado goes.
-
OK Pete go for it. :-))
-
My revision Smasher NT 2879
