Title: Wiring adolph bermPolh
Post by: Scalloway41 on April 25, 2012, 10:03:32 pm
Right.
Time to bite the bullet. Adolph bermpohl needs to be fitted out with some stuff to make it go.
So far. There is a servo for the rudder, a servo for the stern ramp, three motors and some wires......
The motors are 6 volt decaperm motors which I thing might be the original items. There is one large one midships and one smaller one port and starboard.
What I would like is for someone to tell me how best this ship should be set up. What type battery to get to allow best running time, what type/size esc/s would've best and how the h#ll does it all get wired up. :D :D
I intend to run ship with a 6 channel set up so that should give plenty to play with. Channel for ahead/astern, channel for steering and one for up down on stern ramp. Not fussed about having daughter boat on the same set as I can't see me getting her finished this season.
What I would like is possibly some kind of setup on throttle that allows the three motors to work together or independently as required, I kind of imagine, full ahead all three motors going, up to 75% throttle I was thinking it would be only the centre motor required, but, is it possible to use the outside motors in conjunction with the rudder to aid the steering. Is this even possible?
So, what I would like, if some electrical wizardry type person could advise and possibly draw simple pictures for me.....
Just to add a spanner into the works.......wee bitty colour blind when it comes to wires.....hate the things.

Thanks in advance and for taking the time to read my drivel.....

Scalloway41,
For 3 shafts I use an ACTion P94 mixer with another ESC for the centre motor.
This gives proportional control on all 3 motors together but will allow the model to spin on its axis.
If you have 2 different size Marx Motors it is likely that the centre one is a Hectoperm with 2 x wing Deccaperms.
A picture would be a help.
If it was mine I would take out all 3 motors and sell them (should get about £100-00 for these) and fit new motors.
Which motors depends on the props and how fast you want her to go.

Hi shipmate and thanks for the reply.
You are spot on with the makes of motors fitted but, and please excuse my ignorance, why do you suggest removing them ? I don't think they have ever been run apart from me testing them to see if they work.
Is there a history of problems/reliability or something else with these type of motors.

Cheers.

The motors you have got were the best some time ago and as said still have a value. Why not run them? If your happy with there perfomance, then great. If not then an upgrade could be considered. I have this model with the motors youve got and myself am happy with the speed obtained. John.

Thanks for the replies guys.
John, can I ask. How do you have yours wired up? What esc's  etc do you use, if you don't mind me asking. It's all new to me, I have a couple of yachts, one has a motor but it works on a micro switch, think its ment to help steering but it does not really need it.

Briefly, my boat has three electrolyse  esc s. One for each motor. All motors just run together. When i get round to updating then i will go the p 94 route. I already have two in use. Again so much is up to you. If you dont feel its fast enough or does not steer as well as you would like then things can be done. My advise is run it as is and see if your happy. If you wish to speak to me then please pm me your phone number. John.

Scalloway41,
Why I suggested removing and selling the motors is as said they sell for silly prices.
If sold they should reach enough for you to buy the P94 and another speed controller which would only leave 3 x modern motors to source.
Plus the gearing only gives about 4500 rpm so wouls need a fairly big prop to get decent performance.

Substitute your motors and a 12v battery for the ones shown here  http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/HMS%20Brave%20Borderer%20MTB%20-%20Nick%20Panter.pdf (http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/HMS%20Brave%20Borderer%20MTB%20-%20Nick%20Panter.pdf)
