Hi Guys,

Help please ???

I'm renovating a Billings Smit, and am using the original electrics as shown in attached photos.  My problem is that I know nothing about the CE Systems esc.  How do you adjust this ancient aretfact?

All works well on a 6v sla battery, but I need the trim steeing at full forward to prevent the motors running in reverse.

The motors are geared Robbe (I think) 550's, but I can see no way of greasing the gears or prop shafts.  Access is extrememly limited; to the point of having to remove most of the internals to get to them :-\.

I am loathe to change the original builder's set up, as for the time being at least, I am having fun sailing/rebuilding.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bradboat,

I seem to remember owning one of these esc's in my distant past and Im fairly sure that the neutral position and full speed can be altered within the unit.

Any chance of a photo with the metal cover removed to jog my fading memory. ;D

Hi Bradboat,

Don't know anything about your CE speed controller but some older speed controllers were adjusted from the trims on the Transmitter, do you have the original transmitter?

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have not removed the metal cover yet :-\

There is a single screw on the exterior, but this seems to achieve little ???

I do not have the original tranny, but the trim adjustment on mine stops Smit running backwards at least ::)

The motors are Robbe Navy Kompakts, 540/550 geared 2 : 1

To grease the gearing.  Remove motors, remove plastic gearing covers, grease gears, replace all correctly.  Simple in the idea stage.  Not so simple in the 'doing' stage.  I've found that I can put up with a lot of noise before starting the 'doing' thingy.  Greasing before installation is a good idea...

I feared that the doing would be a lot harder than the theory :P

I'm getting used to the noise now, and rather like it :)  Rather than taking lots apart, I'll leave well alone.

I looked inside the esc, and other than a date of 1986, found no obvious means of adjustment. Looks like I'll stay with the trim control method, even though it still seems absurd that the thing wants to run backwards ???
