Title: Good garages do exist!
Post by: rmaddock on May 04, 2012, 08:26:16 pm
The Volvo had to undergo its MOT today. It passed!  :-))
The garage has to replace a number plate bulb (the only one I hadn't checked). They charged me labour. A whole 0.02 hours worth. 72p in total  {-)
I don't think I can get mad at that. They seem to never do more that is necessary and have often told me what work they could have done...but haven't.
So, there are still a few good garages.
Anybody else have a good mechanic or are you all being constantly fleeced?

Allbore Auto Engineering, Newhaven. Owned and run by a family friend and neighbour, used them for 25 years. They're the people that the main dealers turn to when they can't solve the problem!

J & W Motors, Ardrossan, Ayrshire. Always absolutely honest, reliable, and quick to both do the repairs, despite almost always being busy, and let you know when they are done. First class.

HI I go to MOT Stop in Watford.  I was watching as they MOT'd my CRV and I had a side indicator light fail, he took it out and said go next door and buy one, which I did and he re-fitted it while the exhaust was being checked.
Always friendly and do not do repairs!
I am afraid I am suspicious of failures after an MOT when the garage does repairs.  I expect it is just me though!
regards to all Roy

I'm lucky with my garage....I've known the present owner since we were born(we both lived in the same tiny village)my father knew his father...etc.

He comes and collects my car, does what's needed, and returns it to my door. Always calls before fitting anything, sends a letter and an email a month before the MOT is up, and is always on breakdown call 24/7.

A top man, very reasonable rates as well. The best in Sussex...

OOPS ROY I should have said that he replaces not repairs the defective parts, I suppose correctly speaking it is my old banger being repaired  :embarrassed: until such times as I can afford a new (or most likely new-ish!) one...better not hold my breath for that to happen  %)

I'm glad to hear it's not just me then. You hear such bad things about "all" garages. I used to have a fantastic one, about 30m from the back of my house. Wouldn't charge at all if they couldn't fix something. He retired (without asking me!) so I was a bit worried.
