Title: Model ships in the cinema website
Post by: joppyuk1 on May 15, 2012, 08:14:21 am
New to me, just reported on another of my 'favourites', a website devoted to model ships in the cinema, hence its name - modelshipsinthecinema.com (http://modelshipsinthecinema.com) - not a lot on it at the moment, but I'm sure it will grow.

I added the URL for ease of access.

Hi, interesting, however we all know that film makers use models but what about actual models being used as such in films?

In the film High Society there is a scene at the swimming pool where a model sailing boat is launched.

The Film Philadelphia Story is the same plot but no music and the model yacht in that film, also launched on a swimming pool,  is a beautiful model, the High Society one being quite crude.

In Captains Courageous (Spencer Tracey) the Captain is making a model Grand Banks Schooner.  If you like these fishing schooners this is the film for you!
The Disney remake did not even qualify as pathetic.

Any other contributions?

regards Roy

There's a scene at the start of the Kenneth More version of "39 Steps" set at the Round Pond in Kensington, (I think)

One of Bernie Wood's subs appeared in the video for Bruce Dickinson's solo album "Tattooed Millionaire". (For the uninitiated, Bruce Dickinson is (was?) the singer in the rock band Iron Maiden)
