Hi newbie just started to build the nordkap by billings i need help to select a propulsion unit i got a planet 5 trasmiter that i use with my sail boat

I built a Nordkap some time ago, it ran beautifully with a 385 on 7.2 volts. 3/4 throttle for normal sailing and a bit in reserve for emergencies.

Can you post some photos of your build including internals.
Hopefully one day will also build the Nordkap.

I used a standard 540 motor geared down via a belt and pulley drive. Power is supplied by a 6 volt 4 amp hour sealed lead acid (SLA) battery. If you have any questions about the model I would be happy to try and answer them.

Thanks peter your boat looks great hope mine turns out half as good the phots will me a lot with the build as the drawings are not too clever could let me how you finished the hull. all new to me thanks chris

Hi Christopher, I run my Nordcap on a 540 motor direct drive,35mm 3blade prop,supplied by a 6v 4ahr sealed lead acid battery.
The boat is 32" lond and 8" beam
put an oiler on the shaft as the prop is well below the water line.

Whe I looked into building this one I was planning on using mine with a Carson Toxic 540 truck motor (6500rpm@7.2V)

could let me how you finished the hull.
Chris, once the hull was planked I used an exterior grade Polyfilla over the whole surface. This was rubbed down, and more Polyfilla added where necessary. I then sprayed a high build car body filler/primer and rubbed it down again. Most of this coat is actually rubbed off, and several coats may need to be applied until you are happy with the smoothness of the surface. I then used a grey primer/undercoat from a spray can, and finished it with a spray can of household enamel in my chosen colour, in this case blue, as per the picture on the kit box.
It takes quite a lot of work, but I think that the result is well worth the effort.

Not happy a few bits missing from my kit.was all going well with thanks to everyone.
been waiting for 5 weeks for the bits to be replaced been told now it may take up to 3 more weeks

Peter I had not seen the build of your Nordkap until now, how I wish that I could build half as good, the workmanship is stunning, among the best that I have seen on this or any other forum, you are to be congratulated on a superb build, thanks for sharing with us lesser mortals, Mick B.

Thanks indeed, Mick, although I think you're being over generous with your praise :embarrassed: I was pleased with the result, but I have seen many models here on Mayhem that would put my Nordkap to shame.
