just been reading HMS Daring thread, wonderfull model, and found other folks using Litho Plate. I have been using it for years, found it wonderfulll for the hatches on my Ton class Mine sweeper. Trouble is cant getr it any more. tried several printers, they dont use it and have chucked it all away, B888888S!
does any one have a clue where i can get some now?

try a metal scrap yard .
Its where all the old stuff gets sent in the end . You may find they have boxes of the stuff ;)

hi colin, have you tried your local printers, or the nearest newspaper offices, they are the ones to see, as most national papers have gone digital and scrapped the old machines, and your right, lithoplate really is wonderfull stuff to work with, its amazing just what you can do with it, regards bri_c

pitty your so far away Colin i have a 2 foot sq sheet in the shed looking for a good home thats if its the right stuff ,it has a blue coating on one side .

Colin I dont know prices and such but if you have a look at this link they actually Make litho .
If it helps great but it might be worth asking them what they do with their offcuts /seconds

That's the stuff, its green before being exposed to light when it turns blue, (negative made) this is then etched and fixed, and the roughened surface holds the ink.

If you cut up old coca-cola tins, they are a nice thin gauge aluminium suitable for plating work etc.
Ultimate recycling!

that sheet in the shed is free to colin if he wants it as long as he wants it ,i will have to cut it up to size for posting although i may be able to roll it up .

Sorry about that . I would of thought any manufacturer would have scrap or offcuts :(
On a plus side have a look here he says other packs , options are available so it may be worthwhile contacting him ;)

on diff note where are you as I see an offer of a free sheet form somewhere else on this thread . I am in west midlands so if its a convenient middle point between you both shout up I can hold it untill its collected :)

Don't all come rushing, but Colin if you live in the south, I'm in West Sussex and work with litho plates every day, so I am sure I could get you a sheet or two.

Shane it's not a prob for me but if any one wants the sheet i can cut it into A4 size and post it ,prob only cost about 50p with the wrapper.

I think some of the online hobby stores need to start buying up stock & selling this. I'd be interested for some of my larger scale projects.

Just as an aside, litho plate is easy to cut, roll, bend etc. BUT it is not easy to stick things to!
The print side is the side to stick to the hull and paint will stick to the natural aluminium but if you want to stick a small fitting to the polished side you may have a problem unless you provide a mechanical aid, such as a pin.

Thats rubbish, all you do is give it a rub with a scotch bright to slightly take off the shine, I do it to a full panel first, then you can super glue it, evo- stick it, apoxy it. no problem.

That's not what I said.
It's dead easy to stick sheets, panels and plates to hull etc. I normally use evostik or similar without problem BUT you can and do get some of the cyano's normally used for small fittings falling off the oxidisation that occurs almost instantaneously on ali. Epoxy is OK as is resin but that's not normally used for the smaller bits.

Back to the litho plate, a member of our group lives in Hobart, and works for the State Government Printers, so we have a continuing supply of the stuff at regular intervals, good quality and large sheets, I have stock piled enough to build several large models, bye now I am off to build something....

the plates we use are 357x610.6x0.3 i can get scrap blanks that have no coating on them
