Title: What to make of this hull?
Post by: pompebled on June 29, 2012, 09:15:18 pm
Several years ago I purchased two Russian kits of a sailboat.
With my limited skills of those days, I thought it would be simple to fit the boats with RC and sail them, together with my son.

When the kits arrived, I was horrified; the plastic hull wasn't bad, but the deck and rigging were unusable in my opinion.
The boxes were stowed away in the attic until we moved to our current house which didn't have an attic…
So the boxes landed in my workshop, where I made a start with the build by filling the keel with leadshot and epoxy resin.

I went a ‘bit’ overboard and filled the entire keel, making the bare hull weigh 1750 gr.

This left me with little to spare for the electronics and the rigging aswel as a rather low freeboard.

I removed the small rudder that came with the kit and made the large rudder operational:

I would like to hear your suggestions of what type of rigging to put on this hull.

Length: 75 cm
Beam: 17 cm
Draft: 16,5 cm
Weight as in the pictures: 1750 gr.

Hi John,

Little being the operative word, as I don't have the luxury of adding a false keel...
I doubt if this hull could carry as much sail as your Bluenose.
