I've heard an American company is now selling them or a similar type, does anyone know who?
-
Only company i can think of is Model solutions Canada. Somewhat more expensive and sophisticated. What about Actions Unit? John.
-
No one sells JJC systems anymore.
However Harbor Models does produce it's own sound modules now.

The modelsound unit looks interesting, but its a closed system... you can only use sounds supplied by the manufacturer
-
Modelsound comes with a sound editor, so you should be able to
program your own sounds or modify the ones supplied.
e microSD Card includes a Windows 7/ Vista/XP SFXPC4 application and the free Audacity sound editor.
However, if I recall correctly there may be a 30 day trial limit on the editing software.
This may have changed since the intial sound system/16 channel switch option.

I made my own sound system using a $20 "ipod" look alike, $12 mini servo and solid state amp.
I can record any number of sounds on the "ipod" and the servo either lets it play or moves on to the next sound.
Unfortunatly I needed the servo for something else but it sat on top of the perspex block mounted on an aluminium angle.
The mounting plate was also used to do other things which is why there are extra sockets and circuits.
It worked very well but the 2" speaker needed to be bigger and would probably have been better mounted on its side rather than pointing straight up.

Allow me to point out the elephant in the room

Much cheaper than Model Solutions' or Graupner units.
More flexible than Harbor Models' i.e. you don't have to buy a new unit to obtain a different engine sound.
Select a pre-recorded engine sound-set when ordering or load your choice of sounds from our library disc, internet etc.
Programming software plus sound editor (Audacity) plus sound library disc plus USB cable - all for just £5 (no trial period)
Fully illustrated Instruction Manuals, written in English (also available to read on-line)
British-made and fully repairable following any "senior" moments.
400 owners can't all be wrong!

Audacity is a fully working freebie with no time limit, and is a very comprehensive sound file editing suite.

Technobots units are sadly not real sound. Having said that they arnt to bad.John.

Andy Griggs was demonstrating and selling these at Donny show last year,2011.I bought one from him at that show and it was easy peasy to install and is more than adequate for a general engine sound in a smallish fishing boat.
Andy's son was using one in a cygnus and it's o.k.
Balders :-))
