Hello I'm Grumpy Dave, I'm more or less retired and am revisiting my earlier interest in model boats. My other interests are my 7 ish kit car most things mechanical, steam and sail. I have a couple of bread and butter hulls that I was given by a nice man at the skips,He was clearing out his late father's shed and it would have been a shame to throw them away. One I think is a trawler that I would like to make into an RC sailing lugger with a motor. Goodness knows what the other is. Straight stem round bilge and a retrouche (?) transom. I know, where's the pictures? I have also started a Springer tug today. I know, pictures.

Hello again Thanks for the welcome, it appears I have fallen amongst like minded people, scary! I forgot to put my location on my profile ( it's Cheshire) Enclosed( I hope) 5 photos of b&b hulls. Any info would be welcome. My springer hull box is made, photo when I take them. I now have to decide on the topsides, tug, service boat, warhammer floating castle manned by mutants? Did I mention I haven't sourced/fitted motor R/C etc.Thats it for now. GD ps The hulls are 42"x 7.75" I didn't get a side on picture of the trawler(?) hull, next time GD

Welcome from another grumpy.
Your two b&b hulls look (to me) like hulls for the 2 different sorts of RN Picket boats. The blue one appears to be of the same style as the one I'm busy building. Not an easy task!. Cheers. BY.

Welcome Grumpy Dave
You seem to have attracted all the 'Home Guard' by use of the word Grumpy :-))
Anyway - you will like it here

hi Dave
Hey Welcome to this Forum!
Looking at the grey hull; it reminds me of the 'old' plan by Vic Smeed for the VIII Melinda. The only thing is - the hull on the plan is only 35" long with a beam of 6 1/2". As you can see by the sketch - it looks like a Victorian Launch.

Thank the Lord someone else has taken over the mantle of "Grumpy Dave"! Now perhaps I can just be "Occasionally gets a bit irritated by certain folk especially when in his cups or after working hours" Dave.

Hi Martin
How did you get my photograph Hello Magazine wanted a fortune for it. I love it.
Bluebird. VS's plan ratio is 35/6.5= 5.38 mine is 42/7.75=5.4 scaled up? I love the shape have you any more pics? I just wonder if the transom is curved. Melinda has the look of a canal Inspectors launch. Maybe a curved transom block was on it once. These hulls look as if they were never completed, even though there are beam notches. The trawler has screw holes for an engine(Steam?) but Melinda never had the propshat bored. I love this sort of archeology!
Nick, I'm from Kelsall up in the mid Cheshire mountains.
Brian, any Chance of a photo? I am not well up on old naval craft but on the cover of R/C for Boats 4th ed there is a naval trawlerish vessel. At the moment out of my skill league for a build.
Cheers for now
GD ps Martin I have a lot more hair than that photo. I last had it cut in 2009. I am trying to fight off the relentless slide into respectability
Growing old is inevitable growing up is optional.
