gra 2 hi there
Nice to see you progressing well with the ~Whaleback~ as far as the Anchor Windlas goes, I dont have any photographs now of the Windlas on the whaleback
however, the same windlas was used on several air sea rescue launches and it is the same Windlas on the RTTL
I have carried out a websearch and I can only find images of the modern version of the Windlas - the version you require is a mechanical one - where it has the socket at the stern for the operating handle. I will put a few photographs on of the RTTL one - also Maxmouldings do a 1/24 version - I know its too small for yours; but it will help you when you are scratch building one for your required scale.

Sorry to hear about being in the Hospital, I hope everything is ok. I am looking foward to the pictures - but please no hurry take care of yourself first :o
-
G/day Rmay and Dave,
Hope photos help method is the same as other members use on this forum. My experience is that you will loose some during the process.Sometimes you will get one first try.
For these cowls i made my tooling from timber but i placed a steel washer on the entry of the female tool glued with epoxy 5 min.gives a nice flat landing.
Material is polystrene sheet and rod from Evergreen.
I heat the kitchen oven to approx 250deg cross the fingers and away we go.Use a plastic filler to blend in upright and cowl once glued together.

Looking good, following your posts with interest :-))
Couple of questions
What thickness card did you use to mould cowls?
How did you form the deck lights in your last pic?
regards
longshanks
-
Hi Longshanks
I used 1mm thickness for cowls.
A fellow club member made decklights for me on a Pantograph Machine.
Gra

Thanks :-))

Hi,
Why cant i post photos on this subject any more.
Graham
Can you go over to Photobucket ? There was talk of 'Post image' being a problem on here.
ken

Thanks for reply Ken not sure how to use photobucket.
Why has postimage stopped working it has been okay in the past.

Why has postimage stopped working it has been okay in the past.
For the simple reason that the website template makers, (NOT Martin), are too bl**dy lazy to make sure ALL coupling software is totally compatible.
Part of a mate in Michigans job is to ensure that all new teknowleggy can comunicate with the data base of the company he works for. Due to the ongoing complaints about the MHS administered forum sites (ME, MB etc.) he had a look at the structure and said the most complained about problem was an easy fix. Two years later, it's still a pigs ear.
Sadly when you buy a program(me), it has to be trimmed to suit, pity the originators don't loose wages until it's sorted - - - Spline chunk needs you to "Allow pop-ups" and (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=11159.0;attach=115774;image) £
Regards Ian.
WOW! WHEN WAS THAT ( (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=11159.0;attach=115774;image) ) FIXED.
Hmmm The Pound sign ISN'T fixed, it just looks that way when you're signed in. Sorry Martin, 1 out of 10.

Graham
Just trip over to them and sign up. Then start a folder and upload your pictures.
When you view your picture and click on it, a box will open up Image links on it
Click on HTML code and it will say 'copied'
Come back here and paste it into your posting.
My doggie

The advantage of this method is that you can add further writing under the picture. :-))
Hope this helps

Hey.. whappets! These are mine...

Ahhhhh !! lovely.
Lets give Gra2 back his thread. Sorry about that but a lot is talked of the image posting lately. I'm sure it will come out all right in the end.

It works. :}
To get the effect you achieved you must have clicked the A href section. Have another go.

nice :-))
-
What did you use for the scramble nets? Do they unroll?
Dave
-
Hi Dave,
I used rigging twine dyed with a tea bag.I layed out the shape based on the plan with lots of nails around perimeter and tied of each
square with fine twine and a small dab of s/glue.
Net could be rolled down but i have tied it down on deck.

Started on turrets photo of 1st effort looking for suggestions for frame material.
On this frame i used double sided tape and normal paper .
Gra2
-
Lithoplate or Alluminininium S/A Duct tape?
Regards Ian
-
Yes try Lithoplate. I was lucky enough to get some from a friendly Printer; nice chap and he wouldn't accept anything in return. One type was smaller and thinner sheets (used) but the second lot was unused, thicker, and huge sheets from a defunct machine. Winner :-)) He said he was much happier giving it away for a good use than scrapping it for a few quid.
If you need the thicknesses I can go out and measure it - it's snowing just now.

Hi Graham you can try .5mm thick plastic card as I did on the one I built but I made a jig to keep the shape of the turret
by the way your model looks spot on

Hi gra2........never having worked on such small craft {:-{ ....so how did the crew enter & get below decks?...........
Via the hatch just FWD of the rear machine gun tub?...........Derek
-
Hi Derek,
The hatch forward of the rear turret was an escape hatch, the hatch behind the rear turret was the engine room hatch.
Trunk hatch on the port side of s/structure was for stretcher cases and the crew compartment hatch was forward at the bow.
Skippers conning hatch is next to searchlight.

Was great to see both models up on the plane but was surprised by the difference in hull size being the same scale. Must admit though, with all the pics taken on the weekend, this one's my favourite.
The whaleback turning out to be a fine model indeed :-))
