I thought some of you would like to see some pictures of this ship steaming in the Western Solent on Saturday.

Nice pictures, looks like you were on a yacht at the time. I have been on the Shieldhall a couple of times but only when in port. A curious ship really, a sludge disposal vessel which also carries passengers.

A fine ship, but built with the sole purpose of dumping several thousand tons of turds into the English Channel every day of its working life. The current fuss over the accidental discharge of several million gallons of untreated effluent (but no 'solids', or so they tell us), into the Firth of Forth shows how times and our sensibilities have changed over the years. I would of course, like to make it clear that I'm not expressing any support at all, for either practice.

When my mate asked his girlfriend for the biggest ensign she could find for a Christmas pressent the only criteria was that at least a foot of it should dip in the water at rest!!!!!!
It does make dodging ferries at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour difficult if the wind is coming from the port beam.

I know the feeling - why does it want to be exactly where you are?

dunno, but, I think we should all poop in the water now and again, it is bio degradable naturally anyway. ;) ;D

Believe me Paul, if you look behind you and find a 40,000 ton ferry a few yards away on your tail it's an entirely natural reaction!  ;D

Just between you and me I seem to have this ability to walk on water.
I'm great at BBQ's where I do my trick with the two loaves of bread and the five fishes.
I'm thinking I might have a problem.

We once had a mountain of sewerage sludge deposited in a field next to a footpath, about 1/4 of a mile from our house. eventually a muck spreader deposited it in the fields all around us, YUK? no, actually it smelt like blackberries!

It's nice to see a photo of "HMS. BRECON" again. I was an apprentice model maker at Vospers at that time, having helped in the build of of several models of the Hunt class and single roll minehunters. In fact when i first started at Vospers HMS WILTON was still at the yard. Good days.

I see that Estonia has bought HMS's  Sandown, Inverness and Bridport.

Sandown has been named after a British Admiral, ENS Admiral Cowan

She was built for the City of Glasgow council to dump sludge in the Firth of Clyde, the passengers were old age pensioners who went free of charge and had a nice tea room / state room to view the scenery as she went about her business. A practice they carried on with her replacement.
