Last year at The Model boat Convention I picked up a nice TID for £180. I stated in another post that my son Steven and I were going to re-build as TID 164 which is preserved at Chatham. Following are photos of "Anna", followed by actual shots at Chatham. The final photo is taken from the Master class build to give us an idea of the wheel house interior. I will post shots of the re-build later.

The origin of the letters "TID" remains unresolved.
When purchasing TID 164, Martin Stevens was given access to the Ministry of Defence records at Bath, Somerset, relating to TIDs. He came across several 'official' versions to explain the letters T.I.D.
and many others since:-
Towing Invasion Duties
Tug Invasion Duty
Tug Inshore Defence
Tug Inshore Duties
Tug Inshore and Dock
Tug In Dock
Tug Intermediate Design
Tug Inland Distribution
Temporary Invasion Design
- or just nicknamed "Tiddler" in the shipyard.
T.Y.P .... Take Your Pick !

Found this pic of 164 shortly before she was sold out of service, thought this may be of interest to you.

Considering the parts of the TID were produced assembly line style and only required welding together and fitting out in the dockyard, it wouldn't me to learn that TID stood for "Tugs In Days".

Lovely project.
To you have any contact or connection with TID 164? I understand they are struggling at the moment.
